Anyone with a ATS Trans??

Just ordered an ATS high performance transmission with billet input, deep pan, upgraded components, and 5 star converter. Has anyone else bought one of these or drove a 6.0 with one? If so, what was your experience and thoughts on it? I did a lot of research on all the major trannys out for the 6.0, and for the price and setup this fit me the best. Thanks as always!

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

Honestly....get your money back.
They suck...and yes...I've installed quite a few of them...in all makes of trucks....it's about a 50/50 shot whether they'll even work or not in my experience.

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

The company I bought it from swears by it. They are also a Suncoast dealer and the guy I dealt with says he would prefer the ATS over anyother, anytime. 3yr/150,000 warranty with ATS. It all sounded pretty strong to me. The ability to hold over 500rwhp. I called ATS myself and they said I could hold over 600 in all reality if I wasn't launching the truck at every light, everyday.

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

I have also heard from a dealer with Redline Diesel that the ats rebuild kit is better then suncoast. Redline has a d-max that runs on straight diesel with no adder at 800+ hp. But all of my friends swear by suncoast.

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

I'm curious about the ATS trans as well as I have the opportunity to buy one off a guy who took it off to swap to another brand (of truck). I like the idea of a stronger tranny as my old 7.3 tranny went out before 100k miles and it was costly!
Unbroken, why don't you like the ATS? What would you suggest instead?

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

I have the ATS with 5 star and all billet shafts, commander and no problems with mine it works as advertised and the guys at ATS assure me that if anything were to go wrong with the tranny they would fix it as the warranty says.

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

ATS has seemed extremely sucessful in drag racing ie; Snow White and the top fuel style dragster are both running ATS according to what I've read. Hopefully I have the same "luck" those guys have.

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

I worked for Diesel Innovations and have spent many hours wrenching on Snow White....and installing ATS trannys. My personal experience with them is why I don't like them...like I said....it was 50/50 whether they would work or not right out of the crate.
And warranty work ????
Yea right....good luck with that if you ever need it.

Like I said...I worked for an ATS dealer....but I run a John Wood 5R110....and I could have gotten ATS at cost. Makes you wonder huh ?

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

Just wondering since I got past the 50/50 working out of the box phase... is my warranty not worth the paper it's written on? we are about to throw 700+hp to my truck and it has me concerned if there is a failure and the tranny only has 6k miles on it.

I have heard this exact same thing. What kills the trans most often than not is poor (transmission) tuning. There are alot of guys out there running Xtreme Race Tunes with Nitrous on stock transmissions with no problems. It may be tempting fate but I think Edge and Diablo programmers both have proven this concept. Their tuners generally make less power than most Xtreme SCT Tunes out there but seem to have alot of failed tranny's to their credit.

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

I've heard ATS's customer service sucks but I don't have any first hand experience with them. I'd go with John Wood or Suncoast.

Re: Anyone with a ATS Trans??

Unbroken, thanks for the insight. As I'll be moving to Southern California soon, maybe I'll just hold out for a John Woods tranny since they are down there. I just don't want my tranny to blow out like it did on the 97 PSD!!

Not for a 6.0L but my stock 7.3. The first one went bad after a few hundred miles. I had to pay for removal and shipping. I have since received the second trans which I paid for install and that one is bad also. I am now paying the local shop to diagnose and report back to ATS their findings. Thousands of dollars have been spent and I still have no truck to drive! I would NOT recommend ATS to anyone.
