Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

I'm thinking of running the dual gauge mount from autometer that fits over the instrument cluster. Anyone that has this:

Does it obstruct the factory fuel and transmission temp gauges?
How did you run your wiring/tubing?
Anyone have pictures of their installations?

Thanks-
BB

Re: Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

I dont have the instrument cluster, I have the pillar mounts but Bob Riley http://www.dieselsitetoo.com/index.a...&ProdID=57 specializes in Autometer, he can put together exactly what your talking about. His pre assembled gauge kits are teriffic! Thats how I did it. Check it out he's having a sale this month. Scroll down to my wood grain pillars.

Re: Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

DarkHorse,

We sell 15 - 20 a week adn floks really like them as they don't block the vision that some folks don't like about the A pillar mounts. Of course now you can also get the dash top and under dash 3 gauge mounts too.

You'll find that the in dash hides some of the idiot lights unless you kindd of lean over and sort of look behind the in dash mount, not a big deal to most folks but figured you would want to know. The wiring goes between the mount and the clear instrument lens and down behind the dash to you hook ups etc. Pretty easy install over all.

Call me if you have any questions etc.

Re: Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

I've got a buddy with a performance shop, and he had one in stock when I went by this weekend. Stuck it in my truck, and really didn't care for it. (Sorry Mark C...)

I felt that it blocked the factory instruments in the lower corners. It does not match the texture of the dash piece it fits around, nor does it seem to conform very well to it (some 2-sided tape might help that). I opted not to get it, even at a big discount.

Just my $0.02

Dave

Re: Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

Thanks snoboy, I like the pictures. Those woodgrain A-pillars are sharp! I really didn't want an A-pillar gauge because I use my grab handle a lot, but I see his have what appear to be smaller handles on the top. Pretty cool. I also like the dashtop mount he has on the left side; that would work as well, but I didn't want to drill my dash. Maybe double sided tape would work?

Re: Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

Thanks Asynch, thats really what I needed to know; I'll either go with a dash pod or and under-dash bracket.

Re: Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

I hate to bash the product, but it just didn't "feel" right when I had it sitting there. I've seen the pillar ones installed, and they look more like they belong. Post some pics when you get it done!

Re: Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

Darkhorse, No drilling is needed for the mounting or the wires on the dash pod we carry. That one is made by US Gear. We have it in 2 or 3 gauge pods. Autometer makes a dash mount as well that sits over the radio area, but does require holes drilled for the wires.

Re: Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

Asynchronism,

No problem here, I don't make'e just stock'em! I am not a real big fan of them either but we sell a ton of them so somebody must like them. The dash mounts are supposed to come with a special super thin stip about 10 inches long of double stick tape to make it sit flat and square on the bezel.

You can take the Auto Meter dash top that sits over the radio and use GOOD quality double stick tape and not drill holes in the dash, and the wires can go betwen the two sections of the dash without drilling holes so you can remove it and have no damage when you sell the truck etc.

I'm thinking of running the dual gauge mount from autometer that fits over the instrument cluster. Anyone that has this:

Does it obstruct the factory fuel and transmission temp gauges?
How did you run your wiring/tubing?
Anyone have pictures of their installations?

Thanks-

I have the column mount pod with a SPA dual gauge in mine and the only thing it obstructs is the gear indicator somewhat. Mine is held down with christmas tree pins. I haven't painted it to match though. I have pics in my galery.

Where did you find the SPA gauge? I like that setup!

Re: Autometer Dual Instrument Cluster Bezel questions

Installed mine a few weeks back and in retrospect, shouldn't have.

It blocks most of my indicators on the left side including the start up indicator) and the low fuel indicator.

Plus we had to slightly cut part of the dash to fit the fittings for the boost gauge.

The supplied double sided adhesive tape is weak (I need to silicone the gauge pod properly)
