bad downpipe on 05 need help

my down pipe is rubbing "something" i think its the passenger side exhaust manifold but looking up there with flashlight on my back isnt the most scientific way to figure it out i had a tech look at it and he confirmed but in his report it said "adivse customer exhaust pipes need replacing" didnt say witch or where. the service rep said its a common problem with 4" dp's but they dont do exhaust work (aftermarket) in shop anymore. im looking for somewhere to go in SLC Utah or surrounding area to get it fixed, i was thinking 4 wheel parts? anyone else have a better idea or does that sound good? thanks all

Re: bad downpipe on 05 need help

I have a 3.5" but from what I have read in the past, it rubs the body right where the exhaust turns back towards the muffler. People said they banged on the edge alittle with a mallet and that worked. You should be able to see it rub by just looking up there.

Is it a 4" DP ?
If so...it probably rubbed through the bellows on the up-pipe.

Whatever you do, DON'T take your truck to 4-wheel parts under ANY circumstance! They are OK to buy stuff from, but don't let them touch your truck!

Re: bad downpipe on 05 need help

My truck also had the same problem w/ a 4" downpipe. It was buzzing down underneath the floorboards of the passenger, if ull look ull see where the clearance is close. My solution was to take some plumbers tape (metal banding w/ lots of holes in it) and wrapped it around it and bolted it to the frame pulling it in the right direction. It is hillbilly, but heck im a hillbilly so i guess its fitting, better than shillin out big $$ for any other fix. I think it took me 10 min and maybe $.50 worth of plumbers tape and maybe a couple of bucks for the bolts. Good luck.
