Banks and MBRP

I just installed a Banks sixgun and a tb MBRP system. I know that everyone says that the SCT is the best for the trans shifting but I wanted something that I can change on the fly. The question is will the shifting get better? The instructions say that the trans learns to handle the power. Also this is the first aftermarket exhaust that I have put on a diesel. I am getting a little vibration when you take your foot off the accelerator when slowing. Is this usual and I have more in cab noise from the exhaust. Is that normal? Not talking about the louder muffler. Thanks for any input.

Re: Banks and MBRP

You cant have you're cake and eat it too. You had to pick, shifting or change on the fly, and you picked the change on the fly. The problem with that setup on the t-shift is that if you constantly change the powerlevel the tranny is constantly learning, all the while giving you crappy shifts. So no don't expect the shifting to get better if you plan on actually changing power levels on the fly. You could get a sct to program the tranny only though, that would be the best bet to get better trans control.

Re: Banks and MBRP

KM,

I would look closly at the downpipe where it passes the firewall.

Since it can get very close to the flange where the firewall is spotwelded to the underside of the cab, sometimes it will be hitting it.

If you find that might just be it, loosen the flange at the turbo outlet, and the clamp in the middle of the two piece downpipe and attempt to move it a little further to the right or left to see if you can't gain more room.

Thats where mine was rubbing.

Remember, Patience is a virtue....

All the luck but you bought one of the very best pipes available.

Re: Banks and MBRP

Thanks for the comments. The reason for changing on the fly is I do a lot of pulling and depending on on the situation I may need more power. I will give Mark a DPPI a call to see about the SCT.

The install went pretty flawlessly though. Would be a snap on a lift but on the ground not bad. Probally about one hour.

Re: Banks and MBRP

I did mine last week on the ground. Had the wife get on the creeper under the truck to hold the downpipe while i put the clamp on the turbo flange. All the local shops around here wanted $300 to do the job. It rattled on the trans crossmember before I finally got it right. Worth the hassle, yes.

Re: Banks and MBRP

Super6OH,

I cannot claim much credit for my install, I just conned a few Machinist buddies who like to work on this kinda stuff with some
extremely cold adult beverages and a crisp fifty each...

They told me to stay out of their way while they fought with the stock downpipe and cut the stock exhaust apart with a trusty sawzall!

They had it put in in less than 90 minutes!

All they let me do was final adjustments and tighten up the stainless band clamps that hold the sections together.

They were impressed with how well the kit fit together with NO additional fabrication of any kind.

In fact, another guy there had just installed another brand of exhaust and said the MBRP made his look like junk!

If I had to do it myself, I'd sit down to review the installation instructions and take my time with it.

If you are good with the common hand tools your over halfway there.

Don't foget to ice them down before you begin!!

Have a good weekend.
