Real dilema here. I have an uninstalled Banks six gun tuner with the pda system and the speed loader (bought off ebay for $700 6 months ago). I have been reading for months now how great SCT is and how well it shifts etc. But comparing the 2 is there much difference? Should I sell the banks kit, and buy the sct? I like the idea that I dont really have to install anything with the sct. Realiabilty is a major issue as my head gaskets were blown already, didnt see it coming (using the superchips programmer). I have arp studs in now, so I think Ill be safe there. If I was to buy the sct, would I need guages or exhaust? Thanks for any help!

You should get the SCT with custom tunes. You defintely need guages no matter what you run. Either guages or some sort of monitor. You need to watch the EGT's and Boost mostly. Now that you have studs you should be good to go. The nice thing about the SCT is it can turn certain items off in the truck. The Banks would beokay if you're not intersted in tons of power. If you want a nice power difference and not concernd about hauling booty, then stay with the Banks. But they have been known to be shifting unfriendly on the higher hp. settings. Personally, I've had the Edge, Bully Dog, and now the SCT and I wish I had not bought the first 2. Talk to Eric at Innovative or DJ and you'll be happy. Sell the Banks and it'll pay for your SCT and part of your guages. Good luck and have fun.

I have a Livewire on mine and I love it. Just came back from an 1100 mile trip, over a 7700' mountain pass, across Texas flats and more. It averaged 19.75mpg for the round trip, using DJ's Looney Tune. Power, power, power... It's amazing all the get-up-and-go this motor can produce. However, I don't abuse it!

Did you push it up those hills... how the "beep" did you get 19.75 miles per gallon????? Ive never heard a 6.0 getting over 17/18. My dads stock 6.0 only gets 14.5... Mines at maybe 12/13 set the way it is.

Ive read for 6 months on how great the sct is, and they just came out with the xcal3 as I was gonna buy one! So I cant wait! Ill have the exhaust put on this friday/saturday. Hands down its going to be good, if you look even the high performance guys use sct, and now that I think about it I rarely see "banks" in someones sig? I am under the assumption they have a very good advertisement team...

I didn't push it up the hill. Cruise took me up and over. The highest pass was at 55 MPH, on cruise, and the tranny never had to downshift. There's another pass that is not as high, but a steeper grade. Same thing...the tranny stayed in OD all the way over the pass. The Looney Tune from DJ's did all of the work.
As for gas mileage, it's a matter of keeping your foot out of it, moderate acceleration from the corners, and almost all cruise. MPG was verified when I stopped to fill-up. I've run my truck down to 10 miles remaining on the Lie-O-Meter and another time down to 14 miles remaining. I've been able to put on 500 miles without stopping for more diesel.
I know many guys on the site here won't believe it, but that's okay. My credit card and checking account believe it and I have seen it myself. I have also seen a 7.5 MPG run with the 5er on the back, going through New Mexico (I-25 & Raton Pass), Denver, and Cheyenne while fighting 50+ MPH winds. Gives you a real sick feeling...
Very pleased with my truck. Broke it in nice and easy (like all my vehicles) and it has been good to me so far. Broke my Buick LeSabre in the same way (2000 model with 3800 motor) and it gets about 33 MPG on the same trip to/from NM.
I haven't even hit 16mpg yet running an economy tune on flat ground unloaded for 200 miles or so. I ran 70mph on economy, 75mph stock, 75mph on xtreme and all were the exact same route, flat ground, unloaded, with cruise on, and I cant break into 16mpg, no matter what! If you are getting 19.75, then consider yourself very lucky.
Also the terms easy driving and break in really dont go hand in hand, IMO. Without putting a "load" on the motor, the rings really dont seat properly, and may NEVER seat properly. I know this is a widely debated topic, but thats my opinion.

In 40+ years of driving, I have never had problems breaking in a new motor. I suppose easy driving during the breakin period may not be the best term. What I don't do is run it hard all the time. I take it up and down, as needed, but don't hot dog it. I did put my 5er on it after 500 miles on the odometer.
Either way, it runs great, seems to get good mileage (with the mods installed) and no regrets...yet!
Putting a 5er on it at 500 miles would certain put quite a "load" on it so to speak. Thats exactly what Im referring to. I just never understood people who are afraid to drive it past idle on break in. The motor needs to be "loaded" Regardless of how you break it in, I dont think you would ever have a "problem" anyways. For small high-performance motors I've always been told to run it really good. This always seems to yield the best horsepower. I've see documentation of race bikes like R6's and such where while being run on the dyno during break in, they keep putting down more and more power from being run harder. Just something to think about I guess, sorry kind of got off track.
Step dad consistently gets 21 with the 04 in sig. He's got a tonaeu cover which helps a lot I think. Runs it right at 2k. It's possible if you don't run it hard. Truck is bone stock by the way.
