I agree 100%. OMC also hit the nail on the head. You won't get any measurable improvement from any filter below about 500RWHP. And none of you are running there. Also, why hasn't anyone mentioned AFE? If you are going to do it, get the best. AFE has all of those other models beat badly.

i dunno bout that... i got it at the same price as an edge except the banks has safer tunings and i know that for a fact cause it actually smokes less now than when it was stock.. and ppl can say that no smoke means no power and all that BS.. but no smoke just means that ur diesel is actually getting fully automized and burnt.......
so for someone that doesnt like the longevity of their engine, then they can buy SCTs, Edge Attitudes, Diablo, etc....
but you didnt answer my question about which is the best for a manual transmission.... other than that i've got it all on my own because i know air filters dont help much til 500hp+... i just want to know because i want mpg improvement and it will already be on there when i do get to 500hp...
so telling me my programmer sucks (basically what ur saying) isnt really helping me...
BUT thanks for the input!!

I just wanted to say the the number one reason i've seen on the diesel forume for warrenty work being denied is the aftermarket cold air intakes being in place when the vehicle is brought in for service. Especially the oil gause filters as they turbo faitend to lead to lure.

The stock air filter is really not that restrictive and works well from the info i have seen on these forums. Just my two cents.

ya bro.. thats what i was thinking.... the whole reason i posted this was to find out if someone had found THE BEST system.. Like if there is one that just stands out from the rest.. besides being clunky and ugly, the stock one has worked fine and i imagine it will for a while..
as for warranty, i've heard about them trying and sometimes voiding ur warranty for it.. but if i was going to get one (air intake) i would get an S&B because they claim(CLAIM.... haha) that their oil is designed specially for not messing up turbo.. thought?
-thanks

I think AFE stands out from the rest. And as far as the stock filter goes it may not be that restrictive, but it is more so than a good cold air intake like AFE, and yes there is a littel difference in performance even under 500 hp. Probably not that much, but I think it is worth it. When I changed the exhaust and put a cold air intake on my truck I saw a 2mpg increase. Just my 2 cents.

Not many people have manuals on here but I will tell you this. The SCT X-3 with custom tunes is the best programmer/tuner you can buy, auto or manual. Call Eric at innovative tell him what you are looking for and wha-la you will recieve.

So you all know I finally broke down and ordered the S&B CAI after doing my research and spending time on these forums. I haven't got it yet I'll post when I have it on. S&B sold me when they said on their website that if a dealership ever tries to void your warranty, they will back you up. And if they can't get the dealership to fix it, they will pay for the repairs. Mind you that this is when you are using there oil and cleaing kit to their standards so it won't mess up the turbo. After that i guess you are on your own. To me this set up is worth it because I can clean it and reuse it, I like that convienence. S&B really seems to backup their product well with test info. and continued support. I know I take risk when I modify my truck but I accept the risk because I feel they are very small.
I have had 3 PSD, 97,04, &07 and never had any problems that could have been prevented. Maybe im just lucky, but I do my own maint. and keep them tip top shape. I love these trucks and plan to keep my 07 forever. Bill

that was the reason i was leaning towards S&B

just like they were telling me, the stock filter box will work perfectly for a truck with just a programmer and exhaust because it wont help you any UNLESS you're pushing 500hp.....
the only reason i wanted to know was so i could get better gas mileage....
but S&B is serioulsy the best for the buck cause it's the SAME exact thing as a K&N, air rade, volant etc. at a lot less money.... the reason i am going to get one is for the added MPG and the oil they use doesnt get sucked off the filter and mess with things like your turbo..

S&B install

Ok, I got my S&B CAI and heres the 411 about the whole deal. Overall I like the sound and performance I can feel with the new intake. Installation was a little difficult due to the fact that the box didn't fit right and was hitting the hood. I called S&B and they where very supportive when I told them my problem. Apparently it's nothing new with the 6.0s. They sent me a new box, filter, and hardware to clear the hood at no charge. As for fuel economy I don't know yet because I have not ran a full tank through since the install. I expect maybe a little increase but may be do to the old filter being dirty after 20k miles compaired to the new one. Overall S&B seems to be a great product with a great company that backs up their word that I would recommend.
