boost and pyro gauges

I'm thinking about getting a boost gauge. Is it better to hook it up pre or post intercooler. Where should i hook it up at either way. Thanks. Also thinking about getting a pyro gauge. Would it be better to hook it up pre or post turbo. What are the safe EGTs for both.

Re: boost and pyro gauges

I recommend post intercooler for the boost gauge and pre turbo for the pyrometer. Set your EGT limit at 1350 degrees. I have had mine at 1670 but only for short times (4-5 secs).

What they said

Pyro - pre-turbo, most accurate.
Boost - post intercooler, tap the intake elbow, reports of bouncy needles in the MAP hose.

Re: boost and pyro gauges

not sure about boost, but i think post intercooler because that's what the engine is actually making use of. for pyro, mount it pre turbo on one of the exhaust manifolds. it's more important to know how hot it is going into the turbo than coming out.
regards,
chase

Re: boost and pyro gauges

I'll add my variation.

Boost - I moved my Boost to the IC elbow from the MAP. 100% eliminated the gauge flutter/rattle.

Pyro - Yes pre-turbo, however I used the clamp-on style in my up-pipe instead of drilling and tapping the exhaust manifold. Very easy to do in spite of some opinions. Pictures in my gallery or on www.dieselmanor.com web-site in the instructions pages.
