chip...and under warranty

just bought an 05 6.0 purchased a extended warranty and the gm at the ford dealership assured me that when i chip this truck it will not void the warranty on the truck, no questions asked. i have 1 week to return the warranty if i decide i dont want it. does this sound right? the dealer was ford of dublin in northern california.

Re: chip...and under warranty

Dealer does the warranty work - Ford provides the warranty. FORD pays. You can bet that the chip will affect your warranty. If the dealer installs the chip, he has to provide the warranty service. If you install the chip, the dealer may be nice and not mention the chip, but the first time they call in the area rep who sees your chip ..well.. you can probably say goodbye to your warranty.

Ford is losing their A... in warranty repairs due to low quality manufacturing and outsourcing which is driven by the desire to rapidly market new vehicles before they have been fully tested. Just ask the techs if they prefer warranty work or out of warranty work. The information speaks volumes. Your dealer may service your vehicle with no questions asked, but what happens if you move to a new location. The new dealer will most likely be less forgiving. A lot of techs will make ever effort to inform Ford that your truck is chipped in order for your warranty to get voided and improve their quality of life (pay) on a non-warranty repair. I commend them for looking out for their best interest when it comes to pay.

My recommendation - do not install the chip unless you are willing to accept the loss of your warranty.

Run as fast and far as you can from this guy. He is either a liar or clueless. Not sure which is worse. If you chip the truck do not expect it to be repaired under warranty if something goes south. If you are planning on doing performance mods just make sure you can pay for the repairs if necessary....

Nope.

Chip it and you're screwed....dealer'll love the higher compensation for out-of-warranty work, however.

Draw your own conclusions.

this information is false. You will NEVER have to say goodbye to your warranty. All they can do is deny warranty claim and eithe rmake you pay out of your pocket or send you down the road to the next dealer looking to claim on warranty.

Re: chip...and under warranty

Chase,

My understanding of the OASIS system is that if a Service Manager sees evidence of a power adder, he can indicate that in the system and deny your warranty claim. Then, when the Service Manager at the NEXT dealership sees your Vehicle Identification Number as "flagged" in OASIS, he will deny your claim also. It is like Ford has "blacklisted" your VIN. Let's not give the original poster some false hope of shopping for a mod-friendly Service Department AFTER he has been denied a warranty claim.

If my understanding of the OASIS system is incorrect, I hope one of the resident Ford technicians will correct me here.

Re: chip...and under warranty

yes, once it is flagged you will be denied service unless you want to fight it and take it to court and make them prove the mod didnt cause the part to fail.good luck with that.

Re: chip...and under warranty

But if he purchases an extended warrranty on a 05 it's not through Ford am I correct? This means they sold him a warranty that the dealer sells not Ford specifically..This isn't a bumper to bumper warranty or a 3yr 36,000 mile new warranty.?..I have a friend that purchased a 2001 and it had a chip in it already and they said no problem and sold him a 4 year warranty..(and already had it in for a repair, cam sensor)no questions asked...
It's like if you buy a used truck on the lot wheather Ford or chevy they will offer you a warranty to buy....If this was a new truck say from a Ford dealer, then thoes circumstances would be different...But these are independant warranty companies not ford....I bet they'll warranty it...

Re: chip...and under warranty

the warranty was through ford, its a 5-75 warranty. would there be a way to run a sct and just remove it before warranty work would be done if need be? or will ford be able to tell that its been chipped?
thanks

If you run a programmer and take it back to stock and erase the codes you'll be ok...Just make sure you cycle it a few time after you put it back to stock before you take it in...

Re: chip...and under warranty

thanks for the reply im gonna go to ford today and talk to the service managaer and see if what the gm told me about the warranty is true or if he was full of it. is the sct a programmer? i am new to 6.0's, and it seems like everyone has nothing but good things to say about the sct from innovative. thats what i have been looking into.
thanks
