Cold Air Intake

Hi I haven't posted in a couple of years so here goes. I installed a S&B intake on my 2005 Excursion. When I removed the factory intake the turbo vanes were clean like new. After running the S&B intake for about a month I noticed a hesitation in throttle response. I removed the intake and found the turbo vanes are now black and look like there's some buildup on them. The vehicle has 50,000 miles on it. Anyone else experience this? Thanks

How long was the S&B on there? That's something that we haven't had a reported problem with before, and we sell pleanty of the S&B CAIs. Was the system installed correctly? What I mean is, was all of the connections tight or letting in any unfiltered air? They are oiled filters, and some minor amt. or residue may get on the turbo, but it shouldn't take too long for that to dissapear. As for your hesitation thing - that's unusual to. All of our customer feedback has been an increase in throttle responsiveness and quicker spool-up.

Dry black or wet black? I'm concerned too. I remember mine were very clean but there was an oily residue, most likely from the CCV. I would think that if they are black that means dirty air. I would like to think something isn't sealed properly and not the filter letting in substandard air.
