Cold feet

I have cold feet on installing a Banks six-gun on my new truck. I say this because of all the warranty issues. Any thoughts?

Yeah . . . since you already have doubts - figure if you can't afford to pay for any future repairs out of your own pocket - send it back. On the other hand if money is no problem - install it.

Re: Cold feet

I just added a cat-back Hog exhaust, and a PG7 air intake.
I hooked up to my 32 ft TT and noticed a big differance around
the 2200 rpm range in the T/H mode. Until FMC say the chips and
modules are "cool" with them, no way. My dealership has no problems
with the mods I have made, my truck gets excellant fuel mileage,
I am very with this truck. Not bad for a May 03 build
date with the Oct flash!

Re: Cold feet

I did not buy the truck to "romp" on. I bought it to pull my
32 ft "toy" and to drive to work everyday. The mods I made is an
improvement, I am , I even had a friend at work tell me
that is was stronger than his 04 dually. He was really impressed.
If I need to "romp", I'll just jump on the "ole lady"

Re: Cold feet

Talk to Banks about it. And, if you have a dealer you trust, talk to them.

Re: Cold feet

I did call BANKS any they were not much help at all. They pretty much said don't install it. I just don't feel real good about it. I have always used HIPRO parts on all my cars and trucks, but this one has me scared. I cannot afford to eat a 12k motor job just because FORD said it was my faault and prove it otherwise. Gotta cover my butt!!!

I would be willing to bet that this will NEVER happen. FMC is "cool" with stock...anything else and they don't want ANY responsibility for it.

Re: Cold feet

We always tell someone that if they are not comfortable with what they are doing then don't do it. You will drive around miserable wondering if that bump was in the road or the module. Do yourself the favor and save the grief.

If you want to enjoy one then I would think that for the most part the modules that are talked about are safe for your truck. I know we spend a lot of money testing stuff and I am sure we are not alone. We use actual vehicles for a lot of our testing and have strayed from bench testing other than to check components and harnesses. We think this brings our awareness of actual problems that happen.

If you put any of the bigger horsepower modules on your truck that make what they claim and you beat the truck like there is no tomorrow then you stand a good chance of breaking something. If you use the modules like a normal person then you should be problem free. If you have a Ford problem then just pull it off. Most of them are simple and are not supposed to leave any codes. As far as I am aware the people that have had warranty problem left the aftermarket prodcut on it. Take it off if your dealer does not approve of them.

In the end you need to make yourself happy. There is nothing worse then spending your har earned money only to become miserable.

Hope that helps!

Re: Cold feet

I guess allot this comes from the fact that I had lots of problems with my 99 F-150 which I traded to get the new truck. I had lots of mods on it and removed them before I took into the dealer. I think they knew a little about it but didn't care much. I had the the famous head oil leak and they tore apart the the motor to fix it. I never felt the same after that repair. I know it sounds dumb. Just don't want that feeling back.

Re: Cold feet

You have to do what your comfortable with. I am glad I added my mods, or I would have never known what a beast this thing can be. Towing my 9,000 lb boat is cake now. I take it easy but it's fun to hit once in a blue moon. Of course a good family friend is a service writer a dealership.

Re: Cold feet

I am on my 2nd PSD. My first was a stone cold reliable 7.3L and when I traded it in at 221,000 miles it still had guts and burned no oil. My new (sort of) 2004 6.0L has 35,000 miles on it. I am now confident that it will hang together and very soon I intend to go with Edge/attitude, exhaust and intake. I am not going to beat it so I am taking what I regard as a low risk to get great performance. Will I get burned? Maybe. But I like my odds and I CAN AFFORD a new engine if I blow this one. But I think I will be okay. There is a reason these things are warranteed for 100,000 miles. They are tough.

i got an idea....dont get the crappy, overpriced, hard, to install banks kit. get a quad or something simular that is easy to install and remove. do not let the dealership know you have it. simply remove it if you have to get anywork done. if they ask about the gauges tell them you tow and like to monitor things. i had my tranny go out at 5000k and my dealer new had the edge on it and guess what? they didnt even ask any questions they gave me a rental and put in a new tranny! if you want to get a chip i say go for it.
