I have a coolant filter kit which I bought from SPDiesel.com. I have a 6.0 liter diesel and I am wondering if I need to get the suppliment type of filter or the non suppliment filter. I am running the GOLD coolant. I know on the 7.3 diesels you wanted the suppliment for the SCA's. Anyone??

Non supplemental filter. I had to make the same call when I got my kit from dieselsite.com; the extra that I got is the same one that with the kit. The filters with SCA charge are just for the engines that require SCA's (7.3)

Dave,
You do great work. Please post pics when you are done. Also, I've seen coolant filters from other suppliers that cost ~$100 more. Thanks for the line on a cheaper one.
BTW, Is your truck in Redwood Shores for some of the pics? Those glassy buildings look familiar, like some near Oracle that I've worked in.
Thanks for your comments. I live in that area so I am sometimes near the Oracle Buildings. The pics in my website are down the road at the end ao Seaport blvd. It is infront of the great Dot Bomb complex. The buildings were constructed during the Dot Com hay days and are still unoccopied. I will post pictures when I get the coolant filter done. I am still collecting parts.

Please read my other post on this subject. Our kits include the stainless bracket, as well as the new CNC machined tee for the heater hose connection.

How much coolant did you need to drain out before you spliced into the heater hose? I got the kit from Diesel Lite - very professional looking. Probably need to make sure those lower intercooler clamps are tight before installing. One more question: what is the change interval for the filter? My 05 KR has right at 8,800 miles and has done well - I'm trying to get 10 or 12 K just to make sure all is well under the hood before doing a performance mods.

If anyone who hasn't installed it yet has one of the old style brass heater hose tees, please contact me and I'll send you one of the new CNC pieces for free. I want you to have the best current version.
Bob
To answer the question, you don't have to drain any coolant out. Just lift the hose upwards as you cut it. You'll lose less than a cup full.

I purchased the coolant filter kit from dieselsite, great setup. It's been on for about a month now. I have the brass style tee, and if you are considering an aftermarket water temp gauge that style tee is the way to go. I drilled and tapped it for the water temp sender and it works great. The new style tee looks great, but would not work for what I wanted to do. Food for thought for any others out there contemplating a water temp gauge. Thanks Shawn

I haven't put one on yet, do ya'll recommend this as an absolute necessary add-on? I heard the 6.0's are dirty, all my other trucks were 7.3's and I never had any problems. I like the one from dieselsite. i have about 10k on mine now.

Shawn, these could be drilled and tapped just as easily, but the coolant filter housing has two spare ports in it for just that purpose.

Damn, just when I thought I was almost done...another mod I gotta do .
Bob, are you saying the housing is out of the box ready to screw in a temp sender? Any part of the instal process require special tools, considerations, grow an extra arm, etc?
Any chance FMC would have a problem with add on?
