deep tranny pan?

I'm about to switch over to amsoil synthetic tranny oil and I was wondering if it would be worth the money to upgrade to a deep sump aluminum tranny pan as well. I pull a 22ft. gooseneck cattle trailer on a fairly regular basis. Most of my towing is done in town and not on the highway...Would it be beneficial to spend the extra money and upgrade the pan?

PS...what tranny is the automatic in a 2004 Super Duty?

Aftermarket pans won't do anything except make your wallet lighter. Spend the $$ on aThe BIG 6.0 trans cooler. It will work to lower temps.

Assuming your 2004 Superduty is a diesel, then it is a TorqShift automatic. They already have all the trans cooling you should need. AMSOIL is not the right fluid for that trans, it requires MERCON SP. AMSOIL doesn't make a MERCON SP. Now go ahead and tell me different.

What exactly is the BIG 6.0 trans cooler? Dont i already have a 6.0 cooler?

Also...why exactly is AMSOIL not the right product for the Torqueshift tranny? None of their products are applicable?

I don't think AMSOIL makes a MERCON SP fluid. They have a universal fluid that they say works for MERCON, MERCON V, and MERCON SP. I don't believe it.

There are two 6.0L coolers. '03 and '04 had a 31 pass cooler. They downsized it to 25 pass in ''05. The difference in cooling capacity is so small it isn't worth changing if you had the small one, but you don't.

The 5R110 is a strong transmission and does not have cooling issues. An after-market cast aluminum pan whould theoretically extend fluid life, do to a volume increase, and add some rigidity to the transmission case. For the price of an after market transmission pan you can add a set of gauges or one of the PCM monitors that will show transmission temps along with engine oil, engine coolant, intake air temp, and several other operating parameters. I believe most of these monitors also have an aural warning if a temperature goes above a preset temperature. A lot of the sponsers carry them. Of course, for peace of mind, you could add all sorts of equipment, although most of us just add them them for fun.

Smile Amsoil

I have been running amsoil trany fluid in my 07 350 4x4 for a year an towed a 13000 LB 5er for almost 10,000 miles and had no trouble with the trany or fluid. I did get the Mag-Hytec trany and rear dif covers for increased volume/rigitiy/ and for the additional heat disipation of the aluminum and additional volume. I build computers part time and know that aluminum will wick away heat. The heat of the fluid will wick away while its in the pan. unfortunately I did not have any gauges before for comparison.

Spend the money on a tranny gauge instead of a pan. The factory trans gauge is junk and the deep pan is not necessary, especially on a 5r110.

Just curious where you live..... The comments I have heard relative to the Amsoil fluid have been positive in the warmer, southern climates but speculate there may be a problem with it in cold weather (maybe too thick in cold weather??) I'd be curious to hear from anyone that has used it under those conditions......

That's good to know... I live in the St. Louis area, so our temps are similar.

Thanks for the info!!
