DPPI Turbo Back - With Cat

The DPPI Turbo Back exhaust arrived on Thursday, UPS did its normal job of thrashing the box.

The system is designed very well and retains the stock CAT, all of the hangers are properly positioned, the bolts holes for the CAT are perfect. I added an Aero-Turbine muffler into the system to compliment the DPPI muffler, on a Crew Cab Short Bed there is just enought room. Sequence is down pipe, CAT, short 3.5" to 4", Aero-Turbine muffler, DPPI muffler, tail pipe.

The fit is perfect, the finish is sweet.

Sound at idle:
When I start the truck I get a sweet deep tone from the exhaust for about two seconds, then the Aero-Turbine takes over. What is really interesting is that the sound of the exhaust changes from a sweet deep tone to more of a thrush from a jet engine, you can hear the whistle of the turbo through the whirl of the exhaust as it exits the tail pipe. It becomes quiet like a fan running.

Sound while accelerating:
Good solid and sweet deep tone, not loud. Tubo whistle is allways present, louder under acceleration. Jump on it and the deep tone is sweet, still not loud.

Sound while driving:
At 30mph you can hear the exhaust note, not any more than stock. Above 50mph the wind noise from the cab is louder than the exhaust, same as stock.

Performance:
Noticable mid-range improvement. Acceleration at freeway speeds only requires a squeeze on the go-pedal. Previously my truck would want to downship to pass a car, lane changes or passing are now effortless and without down shift. I stuffed the go-pedal to the floor a few times and noticed what seems like shift points at higher RPM.

Fuel:
Drove home from Lake Havasu tonight, previously I was averaging 16mpg with the cruise set at 78mph and no headwinds. Tonight I averaged 18mpg while battling a headwind at speeds higher than my normal 78mph.

Really pleased, no regrets.

What is an 'aero-turbine" and what does it do? It sounds interesting, especially if it ups the mpg's.

Re: DPPI Turbo Back - With Cat

Put my turbo-back on this weekend too - all in all, pretty happy with it! I seem to notice the whistle all the time, and IMHO it's a little louder than stock, but I gotta say I kinda like it. Had to wrestle with the flange where the cat bolts in, but other than that it was a pretty good fit...no complaints here. Still can't get the chrome tip on...trying to spread it apart to fit over the tailpipe but don't want to mess it up...anyone with any ideas????

Re: DPPI Turbo Back - With Cat

Nu60Owner,

Take the tip and roll/spin it as you try to slip it on, we make sure the fit it real tight to make sure you get a good clamp, don't want it to fall off etc. We even suggest tack welding them for theft prevention.

Mark @ DPPI

It would do this without the Aero-Turbine...that's just how the 6.0L sounds.
