dyno pulls

has anyone dyno'ed there truck?...i did yesterday and 12-6-05 and all i made was 344 hp and 503 tq to the wheels. this is with air aid cold air, motoblue 4 inch turbo back with cat exhaust and diablo predetor at 100hp...i feel i should be making alot more torque then that.. there is one of 2 things i think went wrong, the dyno wasnt loaded enough (used a dynojet), or i was not in the right gear (put it in position 3 and left it)

if anyone has any thoughts please post

thanks

Re: dyno pulls

If you manually put the selector in 3rd, you never got to 4th, which is 1:1. Without getting into 4th you won't get an accurate reading. That would explain at least part of your readings.

Dynoing the TorqShift is a little tricky the first time or two since you have to get it into "D" and yet keep it out of overdrive. It takes a little practice, but can be done. Good luck to you next time!

Re: dyno pulls

ITs a five speed. 4th is the 1:1, 3rd is a 1.538:1
The 4R100 used with the 7.3 had the 1:1 3rd.

Re: dyno pulls

Yes, 4th is 1:1 on the TorqShift. Here is the breakdown:

1st – 3.09:1
2nd – 2.20:1
3rd – 1.54:1
4th – 1.00:1
5th - 0.71:1

Re: dyno pulls

The hp numbers are usually within about 4 or so hp no matter if I run it in 1:1 or in OD on my 7.3, but the torque can change as much as 50ft/lbs, but I attribute this to turbo lag down low more so than anything else. The dynojet doesn't care what your ratios are, all it cares is how long it takes you to accelerate the roller of known weight to a certain speed in a certain time. Assuming it wouldn't break loose, you could dyno in first gear lol. I would think the VGT would take out all of the issue with "loading" the engine anyway. It's not like you've gotta have a lot of drive volume to "spool" those things? I wouldn't expect to much more out of it simply by going to a different gear.

But I dunno, I've never dynoed a 6oh.

Re: dyno pulls

I dynod mine in 5th gear it is hard to get it to lock and stay locked in 4th or 5th I am not an expert on which gear to have it in. Had mine set on the 100HP mode when dynoed. I think your TQ shoud be much higher I thought mine shoud be higher than it was. The guy running the dyno said mine was one of the best 6.0 stock he had seen. Remember these power adders claim "best gains" which does not mean it will have a hundres extra HP throut the power ban. You need a stock run to compare it to.

Re: dyno pulls

well stock hp is 325 and 565 tq. to the fly i atleast thought i would be above both of those...when i was dyoing i also went throght the rpm's very very quick, faster then if i was in 3rd going throght the gear on the regular street, weird, as if there was a less resistance on the dyno then on the accual road....can anyone explain this/?

Re: dyno pulls

What kind of airflow was being applied to the front of the truck? Stillen did dyno tests on a modified M5, and the difference between using a box fan or using a high horsepower air blower to push air through the radiator resulted in an increase of over eighty horsepower at the rear wheels. That was on a naturally aspirated engine. The results will be more pronounced on a turbocharged engine with an intercooler.

Here is what I posted over when I got my truck back from Banks ... has real rear wheel TQ & HP #'s:

[ QUOTE ]
Well everyone, I was waiting to pick up my truck from Banks' Race Shop before posting ... we are doing an article for the April edition of Sport Truck Magazine about the Big Hoss bundle, to include the intercooler, 5" exhaust, high ram intake, six gun tuner, speed loader, power pda ... basically everything they had except the exhaust brake.

So here it is ... straight from their dyno:

Stock Peak Torque: 463.6 @ 2000
Banks Peak Torque (Level 7): 706.3 @2200

Stock Peak HP: 255.6
Banks Peak HP (Level 7): 372.4

Re: dyno pulls

There are a lot of things that can affect dyno readings. The issues are both with the dyno itself (needs to be operated right, loaded right, etc.) and the truck.

I note that you are running a Predator...one of the most notorious high cylinder pressure tuners out there. If you have any puking going on, you are losing power (CP going into pressurizing your coolant system or otherwise escaping instead of 100% into pushing the piston). Another possibility is that your EGR is stuck open. All of these trucks with tuners/chips generate a lot of soot, which eventually makes the EGR valve fail. Also, if you have an open EGR, you won't hit the same boost.

What I am saying is that there are lots of reasons for getting a low reading. 1st, you should be sure the dyno operation is right. Go to another dyno shop and try again. If the results are similar, then it is probably your truck. Then start thinking about how you are losing power.

Re: dyno pulls

Just for a referance my dyno numbers are in my signature and that was with only the chip in.. I have exhaust as well now but never got a intake setup as didn't see the need with the power i was reaching. Sounds to me like something wasn't right to be that low with it set at 100 hp and all the other modifications. I had no issues dynoing on a dynojet with loading came on boost fast and hard

Re: dyno pulls

The truck will spin up the rollers faster than they will accelerate your truck on the street simply because the rollers weigh less than your truck.
