Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

Be very careful guys!!! I have a truck in the shop right now with a smoked engine at 9000 miles. The guy said it made a popping noise and lost all power. The Edge is still on the truck, mounted real low where you couldn't see it while driving, and the records in the module show 1885 degrees pre-turbo and 58.2 psi of boost. This guy COOKED his engine and will have to pay for it out of pocket. This is just to reinforce the theory that gauges save engines, as long as you watch them!! Obviously this poor guy wasn't watching them.
Have fun with your trucks but do it wisely!!!

Re: Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

The boost gauge is not reading correctly his truck needs to be reflashed in order for it to read te correct boost psi value. as for the 1885 degrees that is probabley correct. How high did he have max egt set on?

His max EGT setting was at 1300 and the record showed 100% shut down.

Re: Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

How'd he get 58psi of boost out of that thing? Was there a piston sticking out of his hood?

Re: Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

He had to know he was in the danger zone. That doesn't just happen in a few seconds without some major action on the part of the driver.

Did you ask him?

Probably pulling a mountain in 5-5 mode while towing a 35ft fifth wheel.

Re: Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

I haven't talked to him at all, another guy here is helping him out.
That's the only thing I can think of too. He had to be pulling a heck of a load up a big grade on the highest setting to get those numbers.

Hey, if he had removed the Edge, would you have been able to tell he had been using it??

Are these numbers saved in the PCM somewhere?

Re: Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

Yes, we would have been able to tell if it had been there but even if we couldn't, melted pistons is an obvious sign of abuse. Some people have more money than sense I guess.....

Re: Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

How would you of been able to tell if it were removed? either way you really have to be drunk or stupid to not pay atttention to your vital reading on the gauges.

Re: Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

No way it made 58 lb's of boost.
No way unless he had nitrous hooked to it..
1885 degrees with a stock exhaust is possible..
He must have been towing something up the side of a mountain and had the gas planted.

My guess is that there is much more to this stiry.
Sorry to say, but he had this problem coming, and I don't feel sorry for him.

Re: Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

We just removed the air intake and glow plugs, oil smells terrible (burnt) and there are several large chunks missing from the intake side impellor, the impellor shaft won't hardly turn either. This is gonna get expensive.

Re: Edge- 1885 degrees!!! OOPS!!

I am willing to bet it did not reach either reading. My truck has shown same readings(in memory) and I do not see them on gauge. The Attitude readings are that high often(junk). My X monitor readings are never above 1300 and 32 when the Attitude is reading those high numbers. I have the pyro to my Attitude disconnected for above reasons.

The engine might be junk but no way for those readings.
