EGT temps

My EGT sensor is now installed in the drivers side exhaust manifold. What is considered a high temperature for exhaust gas? At what temps should I start letting off? and what temps are dangerous? We pull an 11,000 lb TT, and when I had my sensor post turbo I would see 900*, but not very often.

Thanks

Doug

Not sure if my Outlook monitor is accurate, as I have questioned the temps I see, but I see 1000-1150 flat level ground pulling a 16K 5er, and 1300-1350 sometimes 1400 on hills or into a stiff Kansas/Oklahoma/West Texas wind. These are summer time temps, 95-105F, A/C on etc...6th gear, keeping boost at 20 or under. Winter temps are lower as are tail winds and downhill.

Hi dougjpr,
For preturbo temps, you don't really want to go beyond 1250. For short bursts you can go up to 1300 or even a little hotter, but only briefly. You don't want to be running 1350 sustained for any length of time.
