Several years ago I installed a trio gauge kit on the A-pillar, all ISS Pro brand gauges.
Lately, when the engine is cold and first started, the trans temp gauge will flip around from 0 - 130 seemingly at random until the engine and trans fluid warms up, then it seems to operate as normal.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and if it is a sign that the gauge, amplifier box, or sending unit is going bad. I assume no wiring problems since the gauge operates normally once the truck is warmed up.
Odds are you have a bad signal and or ground at the sender from corrosion on the wire from the sender or the amp box for the gauge is failing.

I think you're right on Mark...as an addendum to your post..In the install instructions one is warned not to use teflon/thread sealant all the way on the sender screwed into the tranny bung..now, that being said, is it possible you are getting readings after warm up as a result of heat expansion and the sender making ground contact? Just a thought.
I have been battling this exact same problem. I bought my gauges from Diesel Manor, the install went great and they worked fine for a while, then the trans gauge started going nuts! It would swing from hot to cold and all points in between. I called Diesel Manor and they sent me a new gauge no questions asked.(Great folks to deal with!!)
I installed the new gauge and all was well for a while, but them the needle swing started all over again. About this time a member named Michael started hanging out on the boards(for those who don't know, he is an engineer at Isspro and a super guy) so I asked him if he had any ideas on what to check. After checking and rechecking my connections he sent me a new amp box. All was good for a while, but after a couple of months the gauge started acting up again.
I have given up hope with the trans gauge. After two complete gauges and one extra amp box I'm still having problems.
same problem here. I have two, one in trans and other in rearend. The rearend gauge acts like a bad ground. Checked all connections several time and no improvements.

My Isspro trans gauge worked great for about 2 years. One day, it began to react exactly as yours did. The needle was all over the place during a 15 mile drive.
The next day I had my wife get in the truck to watch the gauge needle as I touched the sending unit where it screws into the transmission. As soon as I touched the sender, she said the gauge began moving.
I had to tighten the sending unit about 3/4 of a turn. The gauge has worked perfectly since then.
I hope your fix is as simple.

I wish mine was that simple, that is one of the things I checked

Nummit (Pete),
Sorry this is happening again. Let me know if you want another replacement. I've still got your last box here in my office. I finally filled those job openings, but not before we were completely buried! I have the amplifier box project on the priority list, but we have 3 separate projects which need to ship by the end of the year. As soon as I can free up one of the EE's, I'll have him look into the revised design.
Regards,
Michael Pliska

I hate to revive such an old thread, but our ISS Pro transmission temperature gauge is doing this exact same thing on our 2004 F250. I've tightened the sending unit and checked all wiring. No dice.
Looks like I'll be calling ISS Pro tomorrow to see if they have any ideas or can send us whatever component(s) may be at fault in this.

My post turbo pyrometer does pretty much the same thing. It usually stays pegged at the 0 mark now. It worked great until I had to have the cab on the truck replaced. They cut the cable. The directions say never do that. He BS'd me and said the company said it would be fine. So now it sometimes works, sometimes jumps around, but usually buries at 0. Am I looking at a ground as suggested for the trans temp guages?
