Exhaust for 6.0 custom made

Has anyone created their own exhaust on their 6.0?

I was thinking about going with a big diesel muffler with a down turned ip right off of the muffler.

Has anyone done this? Hhow much louder will this be then running it out to the back? What about a down pipe? Will I also need one of those?
ANyone have pics as well?

Re: Exhaust for 6.0 custom made

you know what stopped me from doing something very similar??? Soot. i was figuring that if all that exhaust was exiting below the vehicle then it would "soot up" the whole under carriage and possibly the back of the truck (i have a topper).

i just wasn't sure if i wanted everthing sooty underneath. maybe it wouldn't be a problem, i dunno. just a thought i had.

Re: Exhaust for 6.0 custom made

I did a cheap exhaust on mine... see mods. section of my photos. At first I just disconnected the exhaust from CAT back. I ran it this way for a few months until I got time to finish things. I just left the stock DP and CAT in place and then welded a piece of 4in. to the CAT and exited in front of my right rear tire. This set up IS MESSY! After a few days of driving the rear rim is full of soot! I think if my truck was lifted it wouldn't be as bad. If you want to see what this would sound like just loosen the clamp between the muffler and CAT and take the rear tailpipe out from the CAT back... you can do this in one piece if you drop the spare. I REALLY like the sound! I think it all depends on what you are looking for.

Re: Exhaust for 6.0 custom made

I built a 4 inch system using pipes and clamps from Auto-Jet.com, a muffler manufacturer. I cut the stock system off just after the flange of the downpipe and then ran into a 4 inch high flow muffler. After the muffler, I ran 4 inch pipe back, exiting in front of the right rear wheel.

My new exhaust sounds great, engine spools up faster and more smoothly. I also added an upgraded air box from AFE which helped performance. My next upgrade will be a 4 inch downpipe, already on order from Auto-Jet.com.
