So, I have a completely stock 2006 6.0L. I am considering putting an exhaust system on it. I usually do not tow anything. I have a small 5'x10' trailer that I will load ~3 dirtbikes on, but it doesn't weigh hardly anything.
Would an exhaust setup really benefit me other than just the sound?
I am considering the AFE 4" turbo-back setup, which has a 3.5" downpipe...would that be sufficient?
What are the benefits of removing the stock cat, if any?
I live in Texas where we have no salt on the roads so would there be any benefit of stainless steel over an aluminized setup?
Thanks,
Chris

Deleting the cat will relieve back pressure and drop EGT a bit. The exhuast you are looking at will be fine. A 409 SS in your environment should last the life of the truck. The aluminized will probably last you 5 yrs or so.

Chris,
If you don't tow heavy or in the mountains, an exhaust upgrade is really not going to gain you much other than "its neat".
Exhaust mods are to lower EGT's while towing, or to provide petter flow while dragging/sledding. If you plan on modding the truck with bigger injectors & turbo, then an exhaust mod makes sense. Removing the Cat is illegal in all 50 states. Its a violation of the Federal Clean Air Act. If you've got a drag truck that stays on a trailer, you're ok.
If it were me, I'd go with a stainless 4" cat back w/ muffler delete (if your local noise ordinance will let you).

The stock system is T409 steel so this what I did. I installed the MBRP 3.5" DP and MBRP cat delete pipe (for testing purposes), then found a local shop to cut the muffler out. I can swap the cat in-and-out as needed since it's all 3.5" tubing. Basically I have a T409 straight piped system that sounds great and provides me the best flow to help with EGTs. Less than $350 total (including shop costs for the muffler delete)and you can do all the work in the driveway.

Some stock stuff, some modded stuff, some "deleted" stuff.....
I've got a 4" aluminized turbo back system from FLOPRO, true 4" down pipe, no cat, 1 in 2 out muffler 5" tips. I would not run the 4" down pipe as it's very tricky to get installed correct, not much room without porting the firewall. It took me about 5 tries to get it adjusted so it didn't rub. Flo pro muffler doen't muffle much at all, very loud whistle on my 04. My aluminized pipes look brand new after 2.5 years installed in a salted area. If you want LOUD delete the muffler, if you want LOOOOOUUUUD delete the cat too!

SCT X3 from DJ's
4" down-pipes are a big pain to install. 3.5" is all you you need anyway. I suggest going with the MBRP T409 kit and a cat-delete pipe. The fit and finish is excellent and it comes with a lifetime warranty.
