Hey, I straight piped my truck with 4" from the turbo back....custom made it myself..and it sounds angry...in a really good way. Seems to have a bit more snort to it, I've not noticed anything big with the mileage.....however it is loud...from the outside anyways.....being the LB CC I don't hear it too much in the cab.....oh...and I have two exhausts....this one I fabbed up..as well as a new fabbed one with the cat and muffler to slap back on for warranty work...and its not hard at all to change in between them.....

hey dude im thinking about getting the 409ss with the cat delete pipe, if i ever have to take my **** in to the dealer do you know how hard it is to bolt the cat back in?
with a car lift, not hard at all and will take maybe 30 mins(if you know what a wrench and impact is..).. without a car lift, it still wouldnt be that hard... but with that system it's pretty easy to bolt and unbolt everything.... mine is REALLY easy to unbolt.. i know that

I have an 04, but with stock exhaust I can hear the turbo really well through the cab. However I'd like to have the turbine sounding idle as well. To do this the best way seems to be a cat and muffler delete...I'm just curious, will running a straight pipe cause any damage in the long or short term?
no.. running it with a straight pipe won't hurt anything, it would do more good than harm......

They added some blades in the 04 turbo to quiet it down some. Barrett
The blades were not added for sound reasons. The stock setup does not whistle or make much noise. The blades were added for performance reasons (better spool up). Balls to the wall, the 03's will make a little more power while the newer models will spool just a little faster. There were 2 blade changes; 1st in 04' they went from 10 to 13 blades, and in 05', they went to 15 blades.

i dunno why ppl say the newer 6.0's don't whistle as much.. cause mine is a 2006 that will SCREAM and is louder than my friends that is an 03.. he has a 4" turbo back... would 1" in exhaust diam. make THAT much of a diff???
The 2003's are definitely louder/whistle more. Not sure what you guys have done, but 4 inch or 5 inch won't matter much. It depends on how open the pipes are. If both are turbo back with no cat, no muffler, the 03' will be noticably louder/whistle more. If the 03' has a muffler and yours does not, or a cat and your does not, then the 03' will not be louder/whistle more.

Mine is a 4" clean to the back, no Cat, no Muffler....and yes, the 03 is clearly a louder whistle, but they all sound fairly relative if they have the same set up.
I just cant' figure why anyone would pay 6 or 700 Dollars when its super easy to do yourself...and I did not use a lift, jack, or blocks, just fabbed it myself, crawled under the truck in the dirt and went to town....pretty simple, and it cost me like....maybe 200 dollars.....

I just put an AFE intake & MBRP 4" trbo back exhaust on my '03 6.0. Outside, it sounds great but inside it is deafening to the point where I'm considering going back to stock.
But the extra power & sound is awesome, especially w/a skidsteer in tow!

i guess i got lucky with mine.. besides the mounting hanger SOMTIMES rubbing against my frame when the RPMS are low (i drive a standard so somtimes i let them drop below 1000.. i know, tisk tisk), i have no complaints.. inside it sounds either stock or a tad louder.. outside it sounds like a 747 drivin by...
make sure there is no contact between ANY of th exhaust and ur frame.. are u still using the rubber mounting swivels? those help more than u will ever realize

Well like i said before i was very happy with the cat delete pipe but after 2 months and over 6 visits to the dealer, throwing the same code P0401 "The PCM has determined that there is insufficient flow in the exhaust gas recirculation system", The dealer has made me put the cat back in. Has anyone else had this problem? Its to quiet back to "legal". I tried to blame it on everything else speakin ive never heard of this problem but i hate driving down the road and every 1000miles the dam light comes back on! Anyhelp? Im hopein it comes back on next week so i know its something else
