Ford Motor Co.

Got a recall letter from Ford on Emissions 05E15 and also Customer Satisfaction Program 05B32 last week and in the process of taking care of this recall I was talking to the Ford diesel tech about chipping my 6.0. He stated that Ford has sent a letter out to all dealerships that any 6.0 that has been altered any repairs to said engine will be at the cost of the owner. Has anybody else been told this?? Re: Ford Motor Co.

Spend a little time looking through old posts on this forum. I think you will find this has been discussed many times. There's certainly no secret that Ford will void the warranty if they find out a truck has been chipped. They also have been known to void the warranty for deletion of the catalytic converter, installing lifts, putting on after-market intake systems, etc. Basically your best bet is to keep the truck stock if you value the warranty.

I see you have only had "8" posts so you are relatively new. The one thing I would recommend to you is to take what you read with a grain of salt. There are some people on this site who have had significant issues with their trucks and that is unfortunate. Sometimes the trend is to belittle or downgrade the quality of our trucks. Truly I believe we have very good trucks overall.

Good luck.

Re: Ford Motor Co.

FWIW, I talked with the service manager at a local Ford dealer. I asked him about adding a "chip" or special tuning. He told me that it's kind of a grey area. He explained a few examples to me of how things would work under his supervision. For both examples, the engine has special tuning. The first example he used was a vehicle with a rear main oil leak. The tuner has no affect on the rear main and the repair will be made. The second example was a truck that was brought in on a flatbed because the motor had a rod sticking out the side. He said for a catastrophic failure, both Ford and International will send field reps to look at the engine before any repairs can be made. He said the reps will be able to determine that the engine was not running a stock tune. The warranty will be denied. Like I said, this is just what I was told by a service manager. Take it for what it's worth.

Re: Ford Motor Co.

That sounds like a very good service manager. He understands how the warranty system and the law works.

Exactly, and that's rare!!

BTW, a warranty claim may be denied, but a Warranty is not voided.

No matter how many times that's said, people still break out the fear mongering.....
