Ok so I have an 03 f250 fx4 cc I was wondering if there is any "free mods" that I can do that are (safe) meaning wont make me throw a code, I am new to the diesel world, but not new to the turbo world but I'm loving the combo
Free mods...uhh....If there is a cat and your state does not require one, you can remove it...other than that....nothing free off the top of my head.

thanks for that and I will prob do that when im doing the "off road exhaust" I was looking at where the air intake goes to the radiator support and at the tip there is just a big metal piece, what would happen if I removed that or at least cut it down? I was thinking about the whole rain thing but I think if I cut it maybe an inch above the intake it would block that but still get the cold air... any thoughts??

Ya look up zoodad mod, Sort of makes a ram air...dunno if it actually does anything but it's free..
Also there is a high idle mod that you can do for under $10, So if you need to idle your truck for a while it doesn't "Wet Stack" (another term to search if you dont know what it means"
I just noticed you said you had an 03...
This is only for 03, but this is what your truck will sound like after exhaust.
(a little inspiration :-) (I switched to an 03 turbo)

Thanx for the input and your truck sounds awesome, I deserve some good hazing bc it took me this long to get a TD as long as its productive critisism lol
So I just bought this truck and I am in the process of finding out if has had the studs replaced It has a 5th w hook up and has deff been used for towing and is at 140k mi so Im crossing my fingures that it has already been done. Please keep the new terminology coming

You got the best and worst year truck...Best because it has the most power, better cams, better turbo, worst because it was the first year of the 6.0 and had a lot of issues...But I would think at 140K, those issues would have come and gone.
I agree if it's towing a 5th wheel, it'd a blown a head gasket by now...
If you post Asking for an OASIS Report (fords warranty system), someone might be able to look it up for you who works at a dealer.
Or you can goto the dealer and ask.
Good Luck!

tips for a 6.0.
fuel filters need replacing every 15k use motorcraft/racor/international filters. easily obtained from the ih dealer for around $35 bucks
oil changes 5k
for a fuel additive... walmart supertech 2stroke oil. tcw3 assless oil. it will quiet down the clainking and help lubricate the injectors.
the zoodad mod mentioned above is a easy good mod. ive cut as much as i can on my radiator support and have zero issuse with rain soaking my air filter.
on the topic of air filters the stock unit is capible of holding 3.5lbs+ of dirt, it flows good and is alot more effective than a aftermarket unit. it will support 550 rwhp.
tuning for the 6.0.. there are alot of options. best one avalible is the sct with custom tunes.
see thats some free 6.0 stuff right there

I'm in the same boat as you are. New to diesels but very familiar with turbos. I have an early 03 with the same mileage as yours. Mine runs great, has never spewed, the Oasis report is clean, and the EGR cooler has never failed. The only issue I've had is ball joints which I replaced, a leaky sunroof, and I think I'll be replacing the oil cooler after a near overheating on a very hot day day towing a steep grade. I would suggest if you are not going to mod it to at least get an Edge Insight to monitor oil/coolant temps and boost under load. If you have an early build date you have the Garrett EGR cooler also that doesn't seem to fail like the later ones.
So I just got done doing the zoodad mod and was surprised on how easy the grill came off, from start to finish took about 15mins and can deff hear a bit more turbo... thanks for the tips and I more than welcome more tips and tricks
There is a fuel additive study that showed tcw3 twostroke oil to be one of the best lubricants for the heui injectors which all idi, 7.3 and 6.0's have. This is designed to burn and will quieten down the cladder under the hood a little bit. Been running it for over 15k and love it. I used to use diesel kleen and I have since stopped. It dosent lubricate nearly as well.

the best mods I have done are the 24" wipers and the homemade headlight harness. Couldn't tell you if the exhaust made any difference because I started towing after I put the exhaust on. Just changed out the turbo with the DFUSER 60LFORDHY. My original had chunks out of the blades( how did that happen?) and the Dfuser looked like it was the best compromise. Still too early to tell if it was a good deal yet. But the wipers gave the best improvement followed by the headlight harness. There is something to be said for being able to see well in the rain and the dark, not to mentiion the rainy dark
