which fuel pressure gauge?

I have the Insight to monitor almost everything else but would like to monitor f/p in the cab as well...

mechanical or electric? - leaning toward electric as I had a tough time with an isolator on a previous truck

is 0-100 psi the range needed? - I have seen some guys mention their f/p some times goes above 60 on a stock system...

what brand is prefered?

why are the electrical f/p gauges so freakin' expensive, $200+, compared to oil pressure units?

Thanks,

The Isspro electrical fuel pressure gauge is around $135. I prefer electrical over mechnical as you will need a isolator and will be running a 50-50 mix of anti-freeze through tubing into your cab unless you go bareback and run straight diesel.

I am also thinking of installing one, the Isspro EV2 Fuel Pressure Kit 0-100PSI, Includes 1/8"NPT Pressure Sensor $132.91. Is there anyone useing the Dieselmanor Bullet Aluminun fuel filter cap or one like it with 1/8" sender port on the top of lid. This looks like it would be an easy install.

Taking a fuel pressure reading from the fuel filter cap is on the wrong side of the filter.. You need to put the sensor into the fuel pressure test port next to the return line.

What TeamRoper said.

And go electrical gauge, no need for chemicals in the cab, especially 60psi of diesel fuel

Do a search for fuel pressure gauge, there are tons of pics on here. The test port has an allen plug in it. It is near the bottom of the filter/regulator housing facing toward the front of the motor. You can see it without removing anything.

You will need a 12mm x 1.5 thread pitch adapter to get to 1/8"npt. I would recommend using the hose that ITP Diesel sells, it make's it quick and simple.

You can see the location of the fuel pressure test port in the top pic here.

Is this the hose that you are thinking of from ITP. I wish I new more about this but the only way you learn is to ask.

Yep!!! That is the one. If you buy this hose, it comes with the metric adapter you need to fit your regulator housing, and gets the sensor away from the heat and vibration of the motor.

Ditto to what Roper says, I went with the IssPro 0-60 Gauge and the ITP adapter. They do seem to be expensive but all done all through it is not but a couple of bucks more than one injector.

My 2 cents

i am using the billet aluminum cap on the fuel filter housing with a sender on top. i am getting readings between 48 and 53 all the time, cruising when under load or not almost always at 50. why is taking the reading from this top port incorrect ? it is showing a lower pressure or higher pressure ? thanks in advance for the reply. i was told that using the billet cap was the easiest and cheapest way to go.....

Measuring pressure at the cap gives an indication of inlet pressure to the filter housing. The reason that pressure needs to be monitored is so that you have an indication of what pressure that fuel is delivered to the fuel injectors at. Some pressure drop occurs as fuel flows through the filter and as the filter accumulates more dirt the difference from inlet to outlet gets higher meaning that outlet pressure lowers.
