Has anyone dissected a 6.0 stock down pipe?

Has anyone dissected a 6.0 stock down pipe? A vendor explained to me that there is a section of the stock down pipe with a baffle/resonator in that section. I am assuming that it is for sound reduction.

Has anyone compared/recorded a system like DDPI with and with out the CAT Turbo back for the sound. I am curious about what impact the factory down pipe has on the turbo whistle.

Mark???????

Logic would tell me the baffle is there for noise reduction. I would not think it has much emissions impact.

Re: Has anyone dissected a 6.0 stock down pipe?

I haven't "dissected" my downpipe, but there is some sort of cannister in the downpipe just before the cat on mine. I was wondering what it is. It's wrapped in the foil stuff they insulated the downpipe in.

Any ideas?? Soot trap maybe??

Re: Has anyone dissected a 6.0 stock down pipe?

Could be a section of flex.
This would allow the engine to move on its mounts with the new torque #'s all the while allowing the remainder of the exhaust system to remain stationary.

Could be related to the drone, maybe, maybe not.

I saw mine after it had been dissected while putting in my DPPI system; that "canister" is some sort of resonator, probably to curb the turbo whistle a bit. No soot trap, no pre-converter, no witchcraft, no rocket science(just sounds that way). Oh, and no flex pipe either. That would probably explain why there is way more turbo whine in the turbo back systems vs. the cat-back systems since everyone seems to agree that the cat is not very restrictive.
