Re: head studs

Stock or not, if it whistles and pukes I would change the head gaskets. If your going to change the head gaskets then you need to check the flatness of the heads and block. I am pretty confident that you will be doing it over again if you dont do it right the fist time.

JMHO.

Re: head studs

ARP studs were $540 from Summit Racing shipped. PN is ARP-250-4202. If you already have a blown gasket I'd get Ford to do the repair. The rumor is that the new TSB regarding blown head gaskets is calling for head replacement. Apparently they have found that many trucks that have blown head gaskets also have cracked heads.

If you're out of warranty then I would pull the heads and have them maged for cracks. If they pass make sure the decks are flat, if not have them milled.

Stock gaskets and studs are good to over 50PSI, so I think you're good with that combination as long as everythign is flat and nothing is cracked.

Re: head studs

Can someone shed some light on the difference between ARP studs and the H-11s elite offers? I see the H-11s have higher strength and are more expensive. Is the added strength worth it?

Re: head studs

The H-11 studs may have a higher tensile strength. Personally I've used ARP fasteners is every engine I've ever built and never had a failure of any kind with their products. That's reason enough for me to go with them in my 6.0.

Re: head studs

The studs themselves will go in hand tight, and then backed off 1 to 1.5 turns. They are actually left slightly loose. Then the nut is torqued down. I will post back with the spec when I get my studs, probably Wed or Thurs of this week.
