To my knowledge, the two best long-range oils (the most shear stable) are Schaeffer's 9000 & a Redline product. Most others (including AMSoil & other syns) shear in the first 3k, and then stabalize at a low 30wt.

I have no problems running DELO 400 to 7.5k, but I would go beyond that even with bypass due to the shearing.

please post any UOA on the information you provided.
I have 6.0s in service with no shearing problems and extended service...

LEGEND41, below is a link to my install on the frame rail. I am not using the Amsoil bypass system I'm using the FS-2500. The pictures are a little more involved than just mounting the filter though but it does show where I put it on the frame rail. I didn't like the way the return line was to be run on the FS-2500 (an elbow into the oilpan drain hole) so I made my own return adapter that is shown in the pics. The FS-2500 people now have something like I made available but not at the time of my install.

OMCUSNR, I also run Delo and just went 9600 miles on it. My OA came back great other than a slight trace of possible anti-freeze. I think that could have been because I didn't drive the truck long enough to get it good and hot before taking my sample. Anyway, I change the OEM filter at 5K and the bypass filter around 10K. When I change oil I replace it with 14 qts of Delo and 2 qts of Lucas. Blackstone said the oil looked great especially for oil with almost 10K on it and said for me to go to 15K next time. Personally, I'm having a hard time with going that long but I'll do another OA at 5K or 7500 to see what it's doing.

Oil return line

I really like your setup. I have a high flow crankcase ventilator that goes from my intake to the oil fill cap and could use a setup like you have here with the ccv and not have to sacrafice either one. I would like to know where you got these parts so I could do the same. I have an Amsoil bypass kit but have not installed it yet since I do not want to drill holes in the oil pan. One more question.

My intake is a little off and I cant get the oem ccv tube to fit, so I have a piece I cut on there but its totally kinked and probably closed off inside. Can this cause any damage to the engine if that is blocked. I need to find a flexible type of tubing that will not kink and not have a memory so I can bend it and hook it up the right way. Please let me know. Thanks

I don't have the answer if what you are doing will hurt your engine or not, because I'm not sure what you are doing exactly! I think you sig says you have a 7.3 and I don't know much about them at all.

As for the parts that I used, I bought a new oil filler spout from the dealer (my mechanic gave me one to practice on also) and I made the aluminum piece on a lathe in my garage.

I think that you could drill and tap the plastic filler spout with a 1/4" pipe thread if your hose doesn't have much pressure. The fittings I used were 1/4".

oil return line

Thanks for the idea. Would you ever be interested in building a similar piece for a price? Your idea would work just fine too though, I just really like the way yours looks. I just really want to get my bypass filter hooked up. Let me know, yours looks very nice!
