New Guy Here looking for some help.

Ok, let me start by saying I have done searches on this issue, but I cannot make my mind up, so I wanted to post one specific.

I have a 2004 F350 SRW 6.0 that I have had for approx. 10k miles. It just turned 80k miles on it. It is a crew cab long bed, and I have done a 4 inch lift with 35 inch terra grapplers. It rides very well for a lifted truck, but it has NO power. When I go to pull out onto the highway in the morning, it is a scary event. Push the gas, does nothing for a good delay. Then when the turbo gets going it runs smooth, but it is just very slow.

I have owned turbo cars, and I understand turbo lag, but this seems extreme on my truck.

Also, it tows horribly. It is slow as sin with weight behing it.

I want to do a coolant filter. I'd like to order one this week. I also read a little about an oil bypass? Any info on this. I am thinking about doing an exhaust because I want the truck to sound better.

What I'm not looking for is a race car, but I do need something more. I am thinking about going to SCT, but I have feared the head gasket and EGR issues so I have held back.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

-Ben

hey man, well i have a custom tuner from elite diesel and its on their "moderate" power setting and it moves out pretty good (however not like in the insanity tune... it moves out like a scolded dog then!) i'm keeping it in the moderate one now because it still has way more power than stock and its safer for the motor than the insanity. as far as turbo lag, i've had the same question and so far the consensus is a high stall torque converter and eventually an upgraded turbo... but the converter is supposed to help out alot so i am going with that first. hope this helps! nice truck btw!

what kind of boost are you getting, or do you not have one of the two most important gauges that should be in your truck? the other being EGT. Sounds like your not making boost or maybe a boost leak somewhere. Check your intake, turbo, intercooler hoses for leaks ?

I do not have any guages.

I dont pull a lot of weight, at the most maybe 6k pounds and I only do that probably 4 times a year. I usually pull around 3500 pounds.

Will the SCT programmer come with a display, or should I run different guages?

Also, any input on a oil bypass? I read something on that on this site. I went to get the coolant filter last night and I see it is on delay till the middle of the month.

Thanks again!

Solve Your Problem First

Don't get ahead of yourself, if you are having problems with power output then something is wrong. Adding custom tunes is not the solution and will only waste money and possibly damage your engine. Unless you have cash to throw around start by fixing what is wrong first and don't accept the poor perfomance. Get gauges and problem solve the lack of power. My truck kicks butt without custom tunes and when I mash that pedal entering the freeway they better get out of the way cause she is gonna run over someone. Take it a step at a time and you will not regret it.

Ok tomorrow I will order the three guage sets. What should I expect to see as normal boost readings?

stock i saw about 25psi. i'm sorry i guess i wasn't paying too much attention to your post. i assumed you just wanted more power, not that you were having a problem with it. the gauges are pretty simple to install. you just need a tap and some basic knowledge of your truck. you can find instructions of the installs all over the internet and i think diesel manor might actually have the instructions on their site if you need help.
