Personally I would change the EGR cooler first, since that is the most likely cause of the white smoke, and try to back flush the oil cooler through the EGR cooler feed hose to make sure the oil cooler is not plugged up.
Pull the EGR valve (two 8mm bolts, located in front of the top oil filter housing) and look inside. If it's wet, that's coolant and indicates EGR cooler failure. Look at the welds of the EGR cooler, if you see cracks, then it may indicate oil cooler failure since a blocked oil cooler will not pass coolant to the EGR cooler, which will overheat and get the cracks. If it's passing coolant, and the EGR cooler fails, you should see wet soot under the EGR valve.
Hope this helps.

The oil cooler is a pain, you need to remove a lot of items. Build or buy a topside creeper to help with the removing the turbo. Will never do lengthy engine work without one again, built mine for about $40 with some pressure treated lumber and it is hands down the best tool ever for working on these engines.
