Upgrades and Aftermarket - 6.0L EngineUpgrading and adding aftermarket equipment to your 2003-Up Super Duty or Excursion with 6.0L Power Stroke diesel engine. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.0L Power Stroke engine.
I posted this before but we got way off the subject and nobody answered the question. It seems like everyone is happy when they put a new exhaust on without the CAT. Why would my truck loose major HP and drop fuel economy in half? As soon as I put the CAT back in, everything was normal. I really want to get that thing out of there. I'm defeating the purpose of having a 4" exhaust when the air has to go through a 3 1/2" CAT.
Since we apparently can no longer talk about the cat (or at least deleting it), I will do my best here. I don't think anyone knows for sure. My guess is that you are actually having EBP problems. Those are prone to failure and they cause a myraid of problems when they do. Based on what I know about these engines it would appear to me that your EBP is probably getting an erroneous reading, showing a lack of sufficient backpressure and is therefore passing this bad info along to the PCM. But that is just a guess on my part.
I am sending you a PM on this topic.

Thanks, that would be GREAT!! If the EBP sensor failed, wouldn't my check engine light go on or spit out some codes in the computer. My Preditor didn't pick up anything. Is this a common problem??

Apparently, a bad EBP doesn't throw a code. There have been many reports of bad EBPs and no associated code to go along with it. This has given many a tech a serious headache, since the computer is not telling him anything is wrong. It is apparently pretty common for it to fail and equally as common for it to not throw a code.

I would have to agree with you on the EBP my truck seemed to be doing fine until I put the cat back in. Now it feels very week and will not accelerate. I asked the tech to check the EBP senser, but he refused and said it would have showed up when he ran a scan. When ford finishes screwing around with it the cat is history.
