Questions about SCT?

I have been reading a lot of posts about the SCT tuner and now I have a few questions. Prior to buying my 05 6.0L Ex I owned a 02 5.3 L gas Chevy Avalanche. I sold the Av because it no longer fit my needs such as not enough performance pulling our new hybrid trailer and the need for more seating. Back when I owned the Av I read a lot of posts about HP tuners being used to tune the vortec engines. These were owners who would tune their own trucks. There were forums where the more experienced tuning software users would help out the less experienced users. The method seemed to be to do data logging on your vehicle, make small incremental changes with the software, reload the changes and test the results.

If I understand correctly, with SCT you can use SCT’s canned tunes or have an independent tuner create a custom tune. The vehicle owner does not make any adjustments himself.

Is there any benefit of a tune on a currently stock truck for towing?

If you add mods to your truck, do the custom tunes need to be modified and if they do, what does that cost? Any detrimental effects to the longevity of the truck?

Thanks

There are benefits to running a tune for towing. A little extra power, better mileage, and way better shifting are a few.

A custom program is the way to go and we can definitely help you out.

We will tweak the tune to your liking, so that's not an issue.
For the bolt on's, like air intakes, exhaust, intake elbows, etc. there are no need to change the tuning. Turbo's, injectors, and major modifications do require a change.

Please give us a call, PM, or email if you have any specific questions on your application.
