Upgrades and Aftermarket - 6.0L EngineUpgrading and adding aftermarket equipment to your 2003-Up Super Duty or Excursion with 6.0L Power Stroke diesel engine. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.0L Power Stroke engine.
I have taken this excerpt fromt he HYPERTECH site. This is from their new module #41042 page describing features and operation.
"The Power Dial allows you to select one of three different levels of Hypertech tuning "on the fly" so you can change power levels even while youíre driving. Each level has been developed to allow sustained operation while towing the maximum allowable gross combined weight rated (GCWR) suggested by the vehicle manufacturer. Stage 3 Tuning (+100 hp) delivers the best performance under virtually all driving conditions. Stage 2 (+80 hp) and Stage 1 (+50 hp) are calibrated for the conservative driver."
Please answer the poll and don't flame the manfacturer.

That was a hard choice, but yes, if you read it, it does say that.
As does SCT I believe, and SC 1704 although they ask the weight question when loading either the Econ or HP tune, I've not seen anything that indicates any issue running 7500# and the HP tune. Max might be a different story.
Now wherther it's smart to do that, or it's smart for them to say that without at least recommending gauges to watch EGT's is another question. And the answer to that one is no.

Well I called Hypertech and asked what EXACTLY they were trying to say. The guy I spoke to (I think) didn't exactly have a grip on the GCVR. He kept saying 6000lbs was the max at thier 100hp setting. When I read the Ford towing guide rating of 20,000lbs it got kinda quiet and then some small talk and the 6Klbs quote again.
I just wanted to be sure I wasn't the only one that would read that print differently. If you advertise max GCVR (20K lbs) with +100hp then you better be able to stand by your word. I'm willing to bet they change their "tune" before too long.

I wonder if they are going to be willing to replace parts that get destroyed by pulling max weight with the 100 hp setting (I very seriously doubt it).
I also would be willing to bet that if this question is posed to them a few times there advertising will pretty quickly change to 6000lbs.

Hey there heavy. If you think about it both of our trucks weigh more than 6000 lbs. I had mine weighed at the dump there in Clarksville grand toal was 8400 lbs after dumping the load.
