check into the viper smartatart system. especially if you have an iphone. you can do all functions and get notifications of alarms anywhere as long as you have a signal and your vehical is parked in 3g range. very cool. only best buy can sell hem right now, not sure why. and dont ask best buy about them, all they know about them is that the sell them. i did my research online. check out vipers web site.
good luck

The one in my truck is a Prestige by Audiovox. I have remote start. I found it accidentally. I don't know if it delays to let the glow plugs warm up, but it appears it does; there is a short delay between the beeps and the truck actually starting up.

Other than that, I know nothing of the system; it was on the truck when I bought it.

I installed the viper 5701 remote start/alarm. It was a pain to do myself. I would definitely pay someone to install it. Most of the name brand remote starts have an option to delay the start sequence. I programmed mine to start 30 seconds after I tell it to, so the truck powers up, then 30 seconds later it starts. Plenty of time for the glowplugs to warm up.

if you have an iphone check out the smartstart add on from viper (it works with your alarm, check vipers web site). the app is free and the service is free for the 1st year and 30$ a year after. if your truck is in cell range and you have a cell signal you can not only get alerts but can control all functions of the alarm. go away for a week or two you can still start your truck every day if you want, unlock it to let someone grab something, you name it, its awsome. i was in NY starting up my truck and my neighbor called me and said "hey chris, you know your truck just started by itself" knowing im in NY he didnt know what the hell was going on... LOL!!!
and if you dont have an iphone you may want one after checking this out.

I don't have an iphone. As soon as verizon offers it, i will get one. In my area verizon is the only reliable service provider and I can't afford to miss a bail bond call...

I have been hearing that for years. Hopefully they do though.. That would be neat to be able to monitor and start my truck from anywhere, even though I am rarely far from it. I can just picture your neihbor's reaction to seeing it start up knowing you are out of town.. Priceless..

my truck came with a keyless entry. Yours did not..?

I have a clifford remote start. When I drive to the office, I usually end up parking in what seems like the next county. I wanted something to reach that far - through the walls of the building. The clifford does that, but the remote on the key chain is huge and it sucks batteries. I go through at least one AAA battery a month. Most times, batteries last only about 3 weeks. Not really expensive - one battery = about $0.50 or so each (buy in bulk). It's just annoying to have this bulky thing in your pocket and having to change the battery so often. The clifford also offers an alarm. I have had a couple of minor issues. I did have it professionally installed. I'd buy a clifford again, I think I'd check the size of the remote first next time though.

I think the viper 5901 has a rechargeable remote (kinda like your cell phone). I would definitely look into that smartstart thing if you have an iphone. Then you don't need a remote, just your phone. Which is an awesome concept...

your exactly right, no remote to carry around with you just your iphone, and who does not have there phone with them these days.. also you can do multipul vehicals. we are going to put one in my wifes car now and i can control it. why would i want to do that? my alarm is hooked up to my train horns and i take my keys to work with me(i have a company truck) when the garbage men come they always set it off, my wife just grabs her phone, opens up the viper app real quick and shuts it off.
way cool
