i believe that the muffler is the biggest restriction. but, if you want both of them gone, a 4in turbo back is the way to go

get some gauges like the scanguage2 or edge cs/cts to check oil cooler, because that plugging couldve been ur egr cooler problem

gauges are a must on these motors-2stroker

haha lol

If the 11 and 20 year olds will be around a while then I would definitely trade for a crew cab. And if you're pulling any size camper then don't count on getting over 14.
I didn't notice that cat removal helped with mpg or power but I tuned the truck soon after. I did it to help keep temps down.

Sorry egr. valve, not the cooler, have insite cts and monitoring, deltas are ok. just looking for the mpgs. Will not keep truck at 14 on highway. That was avg. 70 mph, not pushing it. Trip was between NW Alabama to Columbia SC and back maybe 20 mi. in town there.

Gauges are cool I like the edge cts. Also best thing is to get rid of the stock muffler. Bt if u can get rid of the cat and muffler with a 4" turbo back. Also if you haven't ever cleaned the egr make sure to do it I just did mine and the intake was caked with soot I had to remove the intake and send it out to the local engine shop to get the stuff hot tanked out and the egr was caked in soot

The muffler delete will do more than the cat. And with only the muffler deleted, the sound is nothing bad at all.

www.puredieselpower.com has cat and muffler delete pipes. I got mine from there and very happy with my delete pipes. I did not want to get a 4" becasue the 4" systems are too loud for my taste, and 4" does not hold as much low end as the delete pipes do. And delete pipes were much cheaper.

Look at this link for the egr system. It is a stock truck, California, DTC and smog safe egr mod that is good for your engine.

The 4" free flowing exhaust is not to loud it's very suttle driving at highway speeds it's just noisy when under a load or racing it around I drove mine for 80,000 miles like that and just this year because CA now smogs us I put the kitty back in and put a muffler on it 5" cat back and it sounds almost the same the whistle is quiter but the grunt is still there

Have not hooked to camper yet. that 14 mpg trip was me, wifey and the two kids. But I got an idea how this truck will pull. when I picked the truck up rented a u-haul car hauler pull it one way with chevy Z71 short bed then loaded the chevy on hauler for the return trip. you litterally could not tell there was a trl. back there,70 -80 didnt matter think it may have pulled better with that load than empty on this trip. Didnt check mpg when I went after it but didnt seem that bad. had egr codes when I brought it home so got insite and monitored it ,tried the clean but no luck. Installed new egr valve after trip will have to see how mpgs change.

Muffler delete and a programmer with economy tune and you will see an increase in MPG. Might not be exactly what your looking for, but for what you can pull and average on fuel use, I don't think you can complain.

I took my cat off...err I mean, it fell off, yea thats it...to be honest, the only thing I noticed was a louder exhaust tone and and little more turbo whine.

I recently upgraded my entire exhaust to a 4" turbo back because my stock muffler started rattling, but I still have the cat delete pipe. If you want it, Ill sell it to you cheap.

Large part of hoe these trucks perform is directly related to maintenance.
-Fuel filters changed every 10,000miles - 15,000miles. I change min every 13,000.
Fuel additive like diesel kleen is good to use.

-Eng oil and oil filter changed every 5,000miles or less on standard oil, 6,000miles or less with syn.
Use only motorcraft or Racor Filters, fuel and oil.

-Transmission flushed every 30,000miles or less. Check out my link in my sig.
