Safest tuner for 2006 6.0

My dad has a dually and misses the feel of his old 7.3 that had intake, exhaust, 80hp tune and full gages. It got totalled last year.
So what quick and safe tune that will give a noticable kick around town is available. He only tows twice a year for less than 100 miles and probably does not want to go through the whole mod biz again.
I know egt gage is always recommended, but is there a device that will keep safe without one?

Re: Safest tuner for 2006 6.0

Ditto for the Innovative SCT, do the guages though. With the tow tune and a load I really have to work at breaking 1000 degrees, but with my Xtreme tune they shoot up pretty quickly. Pretty cool how it turns a 4 ton work horse into a 35" tire shredding animal.

Re: Safest tuner for 2006 6.0

What about those plug in between tow only boxes like quadzilla or graneteli? Anybody use those? I'm trying to keep it real simple for him this time around. The 6.0 and 5 speed are real nice, but he pines for his old torque beast 7.3

What about the Diablo sport Predator? It seems like I have read a few not so good things about it?

Re: Safest tuner for 2006 6.0

I have an 01 also with the 80h.p. programmer and intake and exhaust and when I bought my 04 6.0 I ran my supervisor in the 01 and he couldn't pull me and I couldn't pull my old truck. As far as tuners are concerned.... It would be the SCT from Innovative or the 5x. I have heard great things about the 5x. Personally, it's the SCT handsdown b/c of all the custom tuning that can be done. As far as a Diablo is concerned.... run like the wind. They were known for being headgasket killers.

I just plugged in my Quadzilla XZT last weekend and took it for a 1500 mile test drive, half of which was pulling a 27' enclosed through the mountains of I-80. I absolutely loved it!! It had enough power, but not too much power. I know that SCT might be better for the custom tuning, but I just wanted something to increase my mpg and help with towing and it absolutely did both those things. Someday I might move up to an SCT, but I'm definitely happy for now.

Do you know what the egts were during the climb? My dad is in his 70s and would not want to fiddle around much, just plug and play and not worry.
