I don't hnow why this didn't load right, but Here goes again. I have a 2004 6.0 that is running a 100hp. Diablo predator. Once in a while it slips between third and fourth in the automatic tranny. Is this due to the Diablo. ? The tranny is fairly new and always gets servised every 20k miles. Your thoughts please?

If you can get the Diablo free get it and sell it and put the $$ towards a SCTx3 with Cales custom tunes.

Thanks Guys for the honost opinion. I am going to order it today from Inovative Diesel. I wish I'd done a little more homework before I bought. Other than that, after a new tranny, new front end parts, rear driveshaft, oil cooler and EGR( ahem ) work ,new turbo boots,ABS brake controler, my salvage title truck was a deal........ I announce a lot of truck and tractor pulls and I need something that will pull my 29' fiver with ease and also looks good .
Team roper 60, I really like the color of your truck.
THanks again, Fullpull

no trans tuning is a sure fire way to get a new tranny is my opinion.... plenty are pushing 450+ at the tires that are over 100k with a stock tranny

2 trannys behing the 6.0 automatic and standart. The automatic is the torqueshift. As far as tuning goes I love the sct. The truck has very little lag on take off. Infact it is better than my chevy 6.0 work truck. The shifting is smooth and firm. The thing runs like it weighs about 6000# lighter. I didn't get my tuner for mpgs and I don't recomend it for that! For me the sct has made my truck a lot more drivable.

the sct is not a trap. he evidently dosent know much about the sct. there are 2 things to stay away from on a 6.0
1) shift on the fly--- this does nothing for the trans. the trans needs to be flash tuned for the program you are running. to accomplish this you will have to shut the truck down. the torqueshift does have a learning curve but it is based on stock power levels.
2) canned tunes-- the sct offers custom tuining based on the trucks strategy. this is basically the file number your truck is tuned with. with strategy soecific tuning you will best be able to optimise you total power out put and get the most out of the truck. super chips is a great tuning and was one of the leaders in 7.3 tuning at one time. they are no longer the best in that segment though. pretty much all tuners out there with few exceptions (sniper, gryphoon, sct, phalanx) have what most call canned tunes which means they are a one size fits all tuning approach. this makes some trucks run freakishly well while others are good and some are not so good. one way they have helped to make this better is to offer tuners in specific year ranges.
.................................................. ...............................................

the diablo sport is a great code reader. but for the powerstroke it has a bad rep and it is deserved. they do make great tuners for the gasser crowd.
if it were me i would get a sct. with the right race file you should see a mid 14sec or lower 1/4 run.

the reason you dont see the sct with custom tunes broke down by year is simply because they use custom files. you buy the tuner plug it in and get the strategy for you truck then call or email them the number and they email your tunes. that are specific to your trucks factory tuning. i love my truck and the tuning i am running. i have considered trying different tunes as well. my truck moves! last powerstroke i raced was a 05+ 6.0. i had easiely larger tires by 2 inches. that race from a stop was over at 30 and i was still spinning tires.

Currently run the spartan archive tunes. I got my tuner used and have been in debate for over a year about getting other tunes. The ones I run work really well it would be hard to realize there may be better ones. I'm very pleased with them.

I have experience, with the diableo, superchips, sct, PPE, and Hypertech on my 6.0...I can say this. The diablo was the worst of them all. Mileage stayed the same, moderate power increase, tranny slipped, and just shifted funny. Superchips gave a good amount of power, even with my 38"s I was able to keep my tires spinning for a few seconds from a stop, mileage increase of about 1-1.5 mpg. Tranny didnt feel much different than stock though. PPE, gave loads of power, but the tranny slipped on all but the lowest power settings. Hypertech, (hyperpac) is great, I love it, power is a bit less than the SCT, shifting feels fine, and I feel like the speedo calibration is more accurate than the SCT. For overall power and tranny life, the SCT wins hands down, its custom tunings will blow away any of the canned tunes from any other company. For those of you with canned tunes, that dont think custom tunes could be that much better: Your wrong.
