thanks for the info. and by the way the edge has 5 settings 1 being fuel milage, 2 towing, 3 drive, 4 race, & 5 extreme. it has a egt and boost guage built into the monitor so i keep a pretty close eye on both and never let the egt's get past 1200, or 28 lbs of boost. my uncle has an 04 & before 40k miles he blew a head gasket on stock tune and i was just wondering what causes it other than poor design & i have heard the egr plays a major roll in screwing up head gaskets from boiling coolant

I don't feel like typing a lot. Go read the thread 6.0 milage. I pretty much laid out why the 6.0 has head gasket problems in reguards to the egr

kevin I dont know if its still in waranty but how would I get them to do "free" labor without there being an existing issue with the studs? I dont know if its still under warranty I thought it was a 3 year thing? it also has 82k miles on it and dont know if thats too many miles for warranty work.

I guess my real question is if I dont want to spend 3k on a stud upgrade what add ons could I put on the truck for some more low end power and adding around 4 or more MPG in city. I am only getting around 13.5-14.5 in town now but my chevy got 18-19 in town with only exhaust, programmer, and intake and that is with it lifted! Thanks for the help im really lost on what to do now.

Your warranty on the engine is for 5yrs or 100K miles, whichever comes first with a $100 deductible. The 3yr warranty is the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

You aren't going to find anything that will give you 4+ additional mpg, city or highway. At best, you might get 1 or 2 more mpgs on the highway... Furthermore, you are not likely to get anything that adds power anywhere in the rpm band that is not putting your headgaskets at risk on the stock headbolts.

The bottom line is, if you don't want to spend the money for studs, don't add power to the truck. Period.

It's kind of a gamble. I have been tuned for 2 years and 40k+ miles and have no engine mods at all. I faithfully watch my EGT's and boost though. I have my tuner's defuel parameters active for extra protection. KNOCK ON WOOD... I haven't had any issues so far and I've been pretty hard on my old truck. My truck has a clean history.

On the other hand, my friend has an F-350 6.0L ('04 same as mine) and last week he installed a tuner just to try it out and he didn't have such luck. He had smoke and flames coming out of his tailpipe and now the truck is completely dead. Not really sure what happened, but it can't be good. His truck has a long history of repairs though. 2 turbos, HG's replaced, 3 EGR's, cam position sensor, ICP sensor, HPOP, FICM, and countless injectors. I told him not to do it, but he insisted (I think he just wanted to get it over with).

All in all, I think that the OASIS should influence you majorly on whether or not to tune or get studs. I would rather buy another truck then to spend the money having studs installed without any existing issues. That, to me, is like paying $100 for insurance for something worth $25 (figuratively speaking). Now, if I were to have HG problems and needed them replaced, I definately WOULD have them installed (because I'm already going to pay for the repair), but not without cause.
