Studs instead of headbolts / warranty

Has anyone convinced their dealer to put in the headstuds instead of the headbolts on warrantied headgasket repair?

Re: Studs instead of headbolts / warranty

Yes, I had my dealer install studs, They said that they did it before with no problem. Even the Techs said it was a good idea that I did that. I ordered them from Elite Diesel.

Yes, mine had no problem doing them for me. Bought ARP's from Innovative, shipped them to me quick and the price was good.

I do them all the time under warranty. In fact we recomend them to people with headgasket problems.

Re: Studs instead of headbolts / warranty

We are using IPR as load input and manuplating it with electronics to be able to map the turbo. It works quite well and is fairly inexpensive to do. Send me a PM if you want more info.

Just got diagnosed with blown gaskets today. Getting fixed in a week. Service writer said he wouldn't do it. @#%!&

Re: Studs instead of headbolts / warranty

I'm having my head gaskets done this week and I was told that they (dealership) would have no problem replacing the bolts with provided studs. He highly suggested not doing so because the studs could void my 100,000 mile warranty. Is this correct?

Re: Studs instead of headbolts / warranty

You need to talk to the technician, not the service writer. Service writers for the most part don't know anything about this.

Re: Studs instead of headbolts / warranty

Lariat, have you considered going to another dealer? There is no logical reason for them to refuse if you furnish them. You might also talk to the person who owns the dealership and find out if this is the last vehicle he ever wants to sell you. Get my drift?

Re: Studs instead of headbolts / warranty

By putting in the studs does it void the motor warrenty? Pretty much as soon as they put them in, they void the warrenty?

Re: Studs instead of headbolts / warranty

Officially, I'd say yes it would void your warranty seeing your not using Genuine Ford parts, but sometimes the dealer will work with you. All depends how nice you are when you have a problem.

I'm raising a BS flag on this. I may be wrong but a 6.0L turbo on a '99 - Flag raised.
