Tranny tunes for Juice & Attitude??

Is anyone running tranny tunes with an Edge Juice & Attitude? I'd like to have the option to run above level 3. I gross out around 30,000 lbs at times and would like a firmer shifting tranny for levels 1 & 2. Anyone using an ATS, Innovative, Evo, or others??

Re: Tranny tunes for Juice & Attitude??

tranny tunes can get very firm! i bark the 1/2 and 2/3 shifts! honestly though, id recommend a good tow tune thru the SCT. the edge is nice, but is nothing but problems when towing heavy. egt's are thru the roof and puking becomes a problem. the SCT is so good, i pull 8-12k pound trailers with a pretty wild custom tune, and do not overheat or puke...

Re: Tranny tunes for Juice & Attitude??

I forgot to put what's on my truck in my info. I've already had the Edge Attitude for a year and a half. I've got about 25,000 miles on it, but almost all of those miles are on 1 or 2. The trailer tows great with acceptable EGT's now. I've got multiple drivers on winter sled trips, so the defueling is a nice feature. Are you saying if I run the high levels I'll start puking coolant. Is that when banjo bolts come into play?

Re: Tranny tunes for Juice & Attitude??

Qball, I had the edge with attitude and towed 10k race car trailer over 23,000 miles on level 4 with no puking at all. It worked like a charm. You just had to be sure that it did not shift down or then it would get too hot. Nice thing about it was that it had so much torque it never shifted down even pulling thru the smokies.

The Tranny tune from SCT will allow you to continue with the edge/attitude and it's adjustable power settings while having the tranny tuned so it will last OR you can just go with a straight SCT tow file and not have the adjustable power settings....up to you, but both will work just fine. I can tell you from first hand experience with both Edge/Attitude and the SCT.

Good luck
Smokn

Re: Tranny tunes for Juice & Attitude??

Gotta find that sweet spot in the rpm range!! I have set up this exact combo. SCT on tow Edge on 2 or 3 when towing about 15,000#.
With that kind of mileage your tranny is already weakened. The SCT will buy you a few thousand more miles but you are ultimately going to need a tranny. I puked 2 trannys in 23,000 miles with the Edge w/Att on an '04. It is a painful reality. Good luck! More directly, The SCT definitely gives a firmer shift.

Re: Tranny tunes for Juice & Attitude??

How did you kill two trannys in 23,000? Did you run the higher levels towing, big tires, racing, or what was the cause? I 've ran on the conservative side in hopes of not having major tranny damage.

Re: Tranny tunes for Juice & Attitude??

QBall,

I have to differ with what most are saying, I have run the original Juice/Attitude, the second generation model and now the Platinum model. The truck has 62,000 on the original trans and shifts great! Do I hammer on it all the time, no , do I run it hard and tow over 10,000 with it yes! I wonder if the propane and other items that some run does as much if not more damage to the trans than the Edge ever thought of.

But back to your questions, the Edge Paltinum will be the new standard, it has complete trans controls that you can adjust to your preference or you can select the auto function that changes shifting based on the amount applied power. So far I have played with all the options but the auto option seems to be the best overall unless you want to go to the strip, then selecting specific gears and playing with them is the way to go. Plus you get safety EGT defueling, a built in turbo timer and a full set of gauges too that now includes the trans temp.

Re: Tranny tunes for Juice & Attitude??

My truck was a dually, no lift and I didn't tow on more than level three. I was one of the fortunate ones who had a tranny that several of the solenoids failed killing the first trans. As for the second one I couldn't say. However, the Edge w/att are known torqueshift killers. I was not abusive with my truck at all. Just the occasional street race. The 6.0 comes with a bit of play room in upgrading performance, yet the tranny is maxed out in the stock position. It just can't handle too much added power. On the flip side the operaton of the tranny itself is far superior than that other girlie named tranny that the other guys talk so highly of; I know as I have owned both!
