turbo lifesaver users

I was just about to buy a turbo lifesaver and I have a few questions to those who have one. I was thinking of getting the extended run time one. The question I have is that I heard it was not good to idle these trucks for longer then 15 minutes because of wet stacking. Is this true? Also, how many of you spent the extra 10 dollars for the extended time. I don't think that it is unreasonable for the extra 10 dollars. I emailed them and they told me that it would be the same as the 15 minute one, just with extended times up to 250 minutes.

Re: turbo lifesaver users

dont know much about the long run time ones,I have the bully dog one set on the 3 min setting and my temps always get back down to about 325 before it shuts down, and from what i have been told that is good enough,I sat and let it idle for 10mis once just to see how low the temps would drop and after ten mins it only dropped about 50more degress.just my experinces, again I am no expert on this stuff

Re: turbo lifesaver users

If you have a need to let it idle more than 2-3 minutes it seems to me you need something else, like an AIC.

If you have your A/C on it won't cool off as quick or as much but < 400* is plenty cool to shut down which should be 30-60 seconds unless it after an realy hard run and A/C is still on. I kick the A/C off and idle it up to about 1000-1200 RPM and it drops temp quickly.

Re: turbo lifesaver users

I run the isspro timer. that way you don't have to worry about how long it runs, it just runs till it hits the temp I set it at. consider one of those, there nice.

If you have any questions on the ISSPRO TTM (Turbo Temp Monitor) give me a call. I'll be happy to discuss it.

Re: turbo lifesaver users

I have a Turbo Lifesaver in both my 96 and 04. The units are great and work as advertised. Both are extended run time and I think that was a waste of money actually. Have never run either truck for more than about 15 or 20 minutes. I guess theoretically, you could run your A/C while you were eating lunch and keep the pets cool in the summer. Anyway, I think they work, so far have been reliable, and help extend the life of the turbo charger.

Re: turbo lifesaver users

I have one and it also works as advertised. Got the extended run time one. Normally one to three minutes are all that is used. However, living in Southern California with the Mojave desert near by, I find almost any trip to the river in the summer or to Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas etc. and rest stops it is great to set it up for maybe 30 minutes, leaving the truck locked with the air on. Both me and my wife can leave for a potty break etc. without worring about it getting stolen, cool inside when we return, and in 100 degree plus temp, the engine gets nowhere near wet stacking.

We don't have pets but for those who do, it is obvious the usefullness. Anyway, even if it is seldom used, the extended run time is handy.

Re: turbo lifesaver users

I have a 1 minute delay on my ignition with my remote start/alarm system. That is enough time to get the EGTs down to 400 by the time the truck shuts off.

Re: turbo lifesaver users

I had a question, does Ford service care about these cool down timers being installed? For example if you take it in for service do they complain about the modification? I wouldn’t think they would if they know anything about diesel engines they would know it's there to help, but just curious.
I want to install one on my truck also, who makes the best?
Has anyone used the BD Cool Down Timer?
