ungrading my 6.0

So im thinking about putting a sct tuner on my truck and putting a 7 inch tip on my 4 inch outlet exhaust. Ive heard mixed things about getting a tuner some say don't do it and others say it makes your truck run better. Can someone tell me strait up if my trucks going to mess up or not. Also what other upgrades should i get to go good with the tuner if i get it. intake?

Nope.
Some people run tuners with no problems, some only have problems from it. I, personally, am waiting for a tuner till I get some headstuds in there and do something about the EGR and oil coolers, and get real exhaust, at the minimum.
Do it if you want, it is your truck after all, but just be prepared to shell out some cash to fix some of the weak links if your truck feels it necessary to detonate itself.

hey man, thats a good call on the sct tuner, i wish i had gone with it b4 my first tuner which didnt have the same adjustabilty or power. make sure you get custom tunes from elite or innovative. you're right about people seeing different results on their trucks. thats for a number of different reasons... i.e.- some strategies work better with tunes than others and some people just post up ridiculous stuff on here. i know that elite says with their insanity tune and an exhaust that some of their trucks broke into the high 13s. which is what you should expect (low 14s - high 13s) i personally have never run my truck at the track, but i do know that on the street i'm hard pressed to find someone who can beat me (without the match up being too obsurd ). also, it's not a question of whether the cab will have to come off or not, expect it. but as long as you have a dealership that will look the other way you can have them fix it under warranty, i actually got mine to install the arp studs while it was in there! haha. hope this helps and good luck

late 03 trucks are suppost to be the worst. i have a late 03 build it is a 04. mine has been tunes since i have owned it with no issues that i would not have seen untuned. i have had a bad oil cooler and a bad ficm and like i said that would have happened one way or the other. the main thing to do is monitor your truck if you tune it. i would monitor it untuned. look for engine oil temps and coolant temps. they should never be more than 15-20 degrees different after the truck has had a chance to warm up. keep your egts under 1250 for andy sustained period of time. if you do these things a tuner will not interfere with anything that would have already happened. along with that if you beat on the truck stock or tuned you will have issues. i personally run a hot tune on my truck and yes it will take down just about anything that is next to it but i dont race every light and i dont run it hard all the time. i am still stock bolts and gaskets and so far i have no issues. the one thing to remember though if you buy the tuner and you use it be prepared as repair are not cheap. a headstud job can cost you 3k+
