vgt sensor?

I was reading on another site and they were saying if you unplug your vgt sensor that your truck will SMOKE. Is this true? Has anyone tried this?

Re: vgt sensor?

I think if you unplug the vgt solenoid the vanes will default to open position causing less boost and maybe some smoke i,m no tech but i do read alot on the technical things about the 6.0 just cause i,m curious and i want to know what i,m dealing with

Re: vgt sensor?

MRKLEEN was correct that there is only an actuator on the VGT. If they had put a position sensor on the VGT it would have prevented a lot of driveability and diagnostic problems in the eyes of many technicians. In any event, it is not advisable to unplug anything on this engine.

It got censored out. The site I was on showed two viedos. One the truck was braking trying to build boost. The other one was the truck taking off. They said that all you get is smoke and no boost.

Re: vgt sensor?

It was said at one time, a Tech told a customer that you could disco the VGT solenoid and drive it carefully (watching EGT's) to let it get good and hot to bake the crud off the VGT. It sounds good, but doesn't sound like a good idea.

Re: vgt sensor?

ya, those 2 vids are my truck. if you unconnect the turbo and just rev it in neutral, it wont do anything. you have to power brake and Try to build boost and then itll start smokin. and if you try to take off my stomping it, it will chug out also! ive been thinking puttin a toggle switch on it....LOL!

Do you have to clear your codes when you do that? Or do you just plug it back in? Was your truck stock when you made that vid? Let us know if the toggle switch works.

Have you tried this mod stock? I have heard that it does not smoke on stock trucks. How did you hook up your toggle switch up?

Re: vgt sensor?

i doubt it will work well on a stock truck, this is by no means a permanant thing to do, just for fun to show off

Re: vgt sensor?

havent tried it stock....but like i said above, i would see why it doesnt work stock, you dont have all that extra fuel being added to the truck. with a tune it will like crazy.
toggle switch is in the cab, just spliced into one of the wires going to the plug.

Re: vgt sensor?

its suppose to putt around, its fooling the turbo into not building boost, smoke doesnt always mean speed
