I would be getting 2 of the Sears Die Hard Platinum AGM. They're actually a Odyssey battery made for Sears and a lot cheaper. Check out the comparisons and you'll see, for a group 65 battery the price savings over the Odyssey and the best ratings CA/CCA and reserve out there.

Not that I have a problem with south of the border, an Interstate guy told me as I was replacing my red tops that that's where they're being manufactured and the quality has gone down, and they sell them. He said in the past year and half they've had a rise in failures on the red top, don't know about the yellow.

I am on my second year with Motorcraft batteries and so far they have been just fine. As you know, they are a wet, vented battery.

Recently I bought an O'Reillys Superstart Extreme 65 series for my wife's V-8 Explorer. Three year free replacement! It is an AGM battery and I believe it is made in the United States. They are a little more expensive than Motorcrafts.

So far I am impressed with it, but I have not tried this brand on my truck. However, I may in the future as AGMs help with more closed hood time.

No Drastic Changes Here...........

I need something good to replace stock alternator, which is putting out low output after 130k miles.

Thanks in advance for everyone's insight...

No changes here to speak of.........my girl is a dually, so I take a "hit" anyway from a mileage standpoint. In my opinion, the benefits far outweigh the liabilities.

After multiple failures of OEM and Autozone batteries on 2 different trucks, I went with Odyssey PC1750T. Yes, it's not cheap. I think I paid 500+ for the 2. But in my case it was worth it, not having to think about the truck starting anymore.

The local stereo shop does not know what they're talking about (typical). Let's do the math: 190 amps at idle times a nominal 13.2 volts = 2565 watts. Divide that by 746 (1 hp=746w) gives you 3.43 horspower. That's how much power it takes to turn the alternator. But wait, we're not done yet. The original alternator puts out about ~90A at idle. So, 90 x 13.2 = 1188/746 = 1.59hp; that's what the stock alternator takes to run. So, 3.43-1.59 = 1.84. In other words, the high power alternator takes 1.84hp more to turn it. If you can feel the additional drag, your motor's really tired & needs to be replaced!
