Re: What is the HOT / Favored Air Intake system for the new Ford?
Last time I had my oil changed I asked if they check the air filter. The dealership said yes they do. I then asked if someone could show me how to check it, as I tried for about 15 minutes to no avail. They sent a tech out to show myself and a friend how to do it. Well I waited until the hood was opened and then pressed start on my wris****ch stopwatch. With the tech...sitting on the rad and feet up and over the engine, me pulling the front of the air filter housing forward, and my friend pushing the back half towards the cab, the tech pushed, pulled, pried, and successfully removed the filter element. Time:...20 minutes later. skinned knuckles for us all.
My comment was "now tell me again how this is user friendly"
I suggested that the next time an engineer was around, get them to remove the element, and see how easy it is.
A new filter for the 6.0 in Canada costs $104.00 + 7% GST
I will be looking into an aftermarket one soon as well.
Re: What is the HOT / Favored Air Intake system for the new Ford?
That's the biggest reason for the need of an aftermarket unit! Too tough to deal with and looks like Ford is trying to improve profitability on the filter costs..... What a mistake! I used to laugh at the Duramax guys when they would whine about the oil filter cost.... guess it's Ford's turn to raise the bar in on this issue
SO: is there anything else out there other than AFE?
Re: What is the HOT / Favored Air Intake system for the new Ford?
go to quadzilla.com and give quad a call i don't think it's on the website yet but i like the set up and look of the quadzilla filter a lot more than the others.. i have one installed but haven't taken pics yet check into it at least it's another option

Re: What is the HOT / Favored Air Intake system for the new Ford?
This is one of the new "tricks" being used by OEMS now. Ford went to Donaldson to make this filter. Donaldson patented it and is not selling it or releasing the rights to it. So, Ford can still say use ours or "equivelent" and since no one has the right to make it, there will be no competition, and Ford is off the hook because THEY didn't patent it.
They did the same with the oil filters with Racor. Pretty slick, but it's a shame they rake everyone over with the price.

Re: What is the HOT / Favored Air Intake system for the new Ford?
Not to get too far off topic here but having just ordered an 04 F350, I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction for buying both oil and air filters for this beast? Also, I believe I read somewhere here about the oil filter having a lid or something attached to it and not to throw it away when changing oil. Is this correct ? I do believe that getting an after market air intake system will probably be one of my first mods regardless. It made a big difference on my Cobra with the supercharger. Not that there is a lot of comparison to be made but air flow is definitely a big factor.

Re: What is the HOT / Favored Air Intake system for the new Ford?
Oil filters: There are, I believe 3 companies that sell the oil filter at this time; Ford (obviously), International and I believe someone said NAPA is selling them also. The cheapest I've seen is the $17.85 I paid at the International dealer (ask for the filter for the VT365). I'm sure others will have filters by the time your truck is ready for an oil change, but that seems to be it for now. Yes, there is a part you keep from the old filter, it's the lid. It snaps off the old filter and snaps on the new one. Your new filter will also come with a new gasket for the lid.
Air Filters: As far as I know, Ford is the only one making the standard filter. AFE and somebody said Quadzilla are making aftermarket ones. I haven't heard about K&N or anybody else, though much like the oil filter, I'm sure there will be others along shortly. Better take your wallet and grab your a$$ though, any route you take here, including the Ford filter are gonna cost ya big bucks!

Re: What is the HOT / Favored Air Intake system for the new Ford?
I appreciate the info. guys and yes, it appears from the prices I read for those air filters, I will have to unload the wallet. I may have to consider an after market air intake for the cost benefit over time. The fuel filter price wasn't anything to sneeze at either. I have tried to find that Quadzilla website and haven't had any luck. Anyone have a link I could use ? Teamroper6.0 that is a nice rig you have there. Where did you get that exhaust extension ? I wouldn't mind adding something like that to mine when I get it. Thanks again for the info. all !!

Thanks for the compliment! Actually, the extension you see in the pics was one I picked up from ITP. It's a Magnaflow extension that I've noticed ITP doesn't sell anymore (it's something like 20+ inches long). It's just that, an extension on the factory exhaust system. I had the factory tailpipe cut off at the bend and the extension welded on in it's place. At the time, I was leary about changing the exhaust, since the truck was less than a month old and there weren't very many systems out there on trucks and I didn't feel like being a guinea pig to see if they caused any problems. I've since replaced the exhaust with a DPPI cat-back system (love the DPPI, BTW) and don't have that extension on the truck anymore. I kept it, because I originally thought I'd put it on this system, but I kinda like the way the new one looks, so I doubt I will. I haven't taken any new pics with the new system installed.

I've been cleaning up the website lately, which is why those tips are no longer listed. I can still get ANYTHING MagnaFlow makes and ANYTHING Banks makes...just shoot me a message or give me a call.
