Re: What is the max boost on the stock turbo ??????

The map sensor measures boost from the intake. That tells the computer what the turbo is doing for boost. There is no waste gate on the 6.0l. The ege act somewhat like a waste gate. You might see less boost but the tuner changes the fuel map, the timing, the fuel delivery from the injector, basically the programming of the computer. Ford wants longevityand emissions while tuners look for power.

My boost on my stock truck is maxed at 27psi.

Re: What is the max boost on the stock turbo ??????

Boost is controlled by the vanes in the turbo. The vanes are activated by a selenoid, which is controlled by the computer. The computer uses the Exhaust Backpressure Sensor on some trucks to control boost. Most trucks have had their computer reprogrammed at the Ford Dealer(reflash), that eliminates the EBP sensor as an input and uses inferred/calculated tables from the MAP Sensor.

Here's some picture with an explanation:
http://dan.prxy.org/Truck/6L_bible_h.../Page_036.html

Boost ranges from 22-32psi depending on the year of the truck and the Ford computer strategy.

Re: What is the max boost on the stock turbo ??????

Back in the day...with 225 injectiors and a stock turbo fuelling to hell and back...I could see 45 psi on the gauge. It wasn't good...or the right thing to do....but it did it.....then it blew up. LOL
Then I spun a modded stocker to 55 psi....then it blew up. LOL

I settled on 42 psi with the Beans turbo...and it's still going strong now....although it's in a different truck now.

Holy crap, thats nuts!

Stock I saw between 22-24, with the SCT, upwards of 33~, but only if you roll on it, at full throttle its 19ish.

Can I ask how the pressure was measured...and what were the circumstances of the head gaskets blowing. IE...slowly over time...or BLAM ! LOL

Re: What is the max boost on the stock turbo ??????

In the earlier programming, Ford used an Exhaust BackPressure Sensor to control boost. Over time, these sensors would become corroded and lose the sensitivity needed to control the turbo effectively. When this happens, boost would sometimes spike causing issues with the turbo(bearings and self destruction).

With the later reflashes, Ford ignores the input from the EBP Sensor and uses inferred boost readings to control the turbo. This eliminated the need to swap out the $130 EBP sensors and worn out turbo's on trucks under warranty. They lowered the boost and fueling on these later programs for emissions and reliabilty issues of the later turbo designs. You can definitely make more boost safely with the 03-04 turbo's than the 05+ turbo's.

Re: What is the max boost on the stock turbo ??????

When my truck was all stock (well other than a Green drop-in air filter) my truck hit 33 psi one time when I was towing. Most of the time it tops out at 28 to 30, with the stock setting. With the SCT on economy, it tops out at 20 psi, towing tops out at 25 psi, and street usually tops out at 27 or 28 psi.
