Where to put oil temp sender?

Hi everybody,
The last gauge I have left to install is the oil temp. I have no idea where to put it. I read about putting it in the filter cap. Would that give an accurate reading? I would like as many suggestions as I can get and am interested in all my options. 04 f250 6.0

Thanks.

re: Where to put oil temp sender?

I had mine in the filter cap. ACtually had oil pressure sender there too. Just ran a T on top of the cap.
The billet caps on the market make this really easy. If you drill/tap the stock one...you'll be shocked at how thin it is.

I have mine in the billet cap with oil by-pass filter i may move it to the sending unit location i was going to get a new sending unit to get the thread size and the tee and put it together before hand. it seem to work in the cap though there's only 5 degrees difference between EOT and ECT.

I tapped my OEM filter cap.

I put a brass nut on the underside of the cap. I still have about 1/2" clearance before the spring is touched. The only problem I seem to have right now is low oil temps, about 155. I am trying to sort this out. I will try to swop the ECT send with the EOT sender to see if there is any change. Anybody have any suggestions or has this happen to you and you fixed it?

Unbrocken
How are you temp reading from the oil filter cap. What temps are you getting? Do you have a picture of the installed sender?

Headviking, the reason you're getting low oil temp readings is because the temp sender is installed after the oil cooler. You need it somewhere in the system before the oil gets cooled. Your concern is how hot the oil is before the cooler. The best place in my opinion is at the oil pan.

You have a 5* difference between EOT and ECT? Using your Oil filter cap. My in registering about 15 below ECT, reading from the filter cap, why?

My EOT is 5 to 10 degrees cooler ECT it could be because it's after the cooler and it's a new cooler and there no hills to climb here all flat roads.
The aluminum cap may hold the heat different than the plastic cap

Paintingman, That makes sense. Just a quick question. after the oil is cooled in the oil cooler. Wher next does the oil go? In this same system, when do the oil come from directly before it's filtered.?
