Exclamation 2001 Excursion Vegistroke Questions

Hello! I am new to this forum, and kinda new to diesels (a couple of years ago I had a 2500 cummings). Finally found an Excursion that was at a good price and had this wonderful 7.3l diesel which everyone says is a champ when it comes to WVO. So I did many months of research and concluded that the Vegistroke kit was the best option, as this will be my wife's kiddo transport (she drives ALOT) and just had a few questions... The truck is in great shape, very clean motor- no oil leaks and aside from the high oil pressure that I understand is an issue with the 7.3l everything is great. I ordered my kit (Dinofuelalternatives.com is backed up gonna take 3 weeks to get it!) and in northern california diesel is over $4 a gallon, I am doing this install none too soon.

First: What is a fair install price? I know that this is supposedly an easy install, but I am all thumbs with wiring and I want this to be as clean as possible. I am having a custom tank installed (25gal) under the truck, and thinking that a flush mounted fuel reciptical would look nice next to the stock fuel door.

Second: Processing WVO. HEEEELLLLP!!!! There are enough topics on this to make my head explode! Everyone has their own method, some make it sound easy..... Others sound like you need an advanced degree in Smartology. My needs are simple: 1) Filter the Oil. 2) Burn the oil. 2a) Maybe store some for future use. I purchased the Greasecar.com "Stand alone filtration kit" and I am hoping this will be sufficant to get it into my tank from the settling tank. The question is: Assuming the oil I get isn't super dirty, how long will a 5 micron filter in this set up last?

Thanks for your help

I charge a $1000 for installs. I get good clean oil and my 5 micron filters are almost a year old.

Thanks Spotty!
Do you do all the crazy multi-barrel-nuclear-reactor setup, or just run the oil through your 5 micron filter to the tank? Do you use the Greasecar standalone filtration setup? If not, know anyone who does?

Check out Goldenfuelsystems for their filling port on the excursion. That is the only cool thing they have and the tank too but thats about what I paid for on mine. Everything else redone. You should be happy with your V3.

Thanks! I sent GFS an email requesting this, and I will probably call them on monday. Honestly I don't think they will sell it to me, as most Kit companys are pretty stingy about selling parts of their kits. I would much rather have this in my fuel door than a hole drilled into my quarter panel. Does your full piller create a blind spot, or otherwise obstruct your view in the Excursion?

I'm sure your neighbors love that  is all that really necessary (for bio I know it is) to clean WVO? Or are you trying to squeeze 50k out of your filters?

No problem with full a pillar and vision. The only drawback is you cannot fully put sun visor in down position as it hits the top pod. Rarely is this an issue. I also have a tri-guage pod that sits on the under side of dash for my vegoil temp, vaccum gauge and diesel tank fuel gauge. Autometer Triple Gauge Under Dash Mount 99-04 Ford Super Duty 15018

I will be puting an upper pod that goes over rear view mirror for fuel pressure (current gauge is mounted under hood on fpr), volt meter, boost and ???

Good luck with your conversion.

I have both systems tied together. So far it consists of 2 55g drums and 2 hw heater tanks, 2 pumps ,some gauges, alot of valves, hose, pipe, and 4 filters. oh yeah 2 more 55g drums for final product, bio and wvo with dispensing pump. Now I need to make something for a bio wash.

Man this is way off subject huh!

Spotty, I have read that you should avoid places that use flower in their fryers for WVO. Does that mean battered things, or things made from flower (tortillas for example)?

I think people believe the flower or batter or whatever anything is breaded with, will hold water in it. But I would think if these items were subject to lets say 400*F the water should boil off. I'm not no pro but what I do seems to work.

Off topic, but Spotty-
Send me a PM if you're ever down this way, I'd love to check out the setup on your Excursion.

Chicken fingers, crab rangons, eggrolls....I'm sure there is other things.
Luckuslucas, I go down that way every so often. I don't have an Excursion my friend does with the V3, I have a F-250 I need to revamp my kit, it looks like some jerk just threw in some hoses and stuff. I have had a few on the side of the road temporary changes that are still in use.

I am having real trouble finding oil in my area. Not that there is a lot of competition, just people are afraid of getting in trouble for either pouring into my barrel or letting me claim it from the container. I know about getting permission from the disposal company yada yada... I get suspicious looks when I tell them my intent and purpose. I use simple explanations dress nice (not too nice, but not like I crawled out of a grease dumpster), smile and answer any questions they might have. Only they never ask any questions... Only look at me like I have a fork stuck to my head, and am trying to sell them volcano insurance.
