I have available , a 55 gallon barrel that is still sealed with a small amount of highway paint at the bottom . I plan to use it for a filter barrel for processing WVO and wonder if I will have any problems with any residual paint that may not be removed with thinner and rags .

Wash it out with water and add a gallon or two of gas and splash it all over, roll it, flip it, then drain it. Do that 3 or so times and it will be all gone. Thats how we get rid of oil, paint, and anything else in barrels we plan to use

If I were you I'd get another drum. Paint residue is nasty to remove especially in a sealed drum. IMO you'll never get it clean enough. Try pouring in some B100 and let it soften up the paint. My 55 gal drums are from a virgin olive oil producer so they come to me empty and clean as a whistle.

Thanks hheynow , I've recently acquired 4 plastic drums that a pipeline contractor was using for floats in swampy terrain that were used for shipping some sort of beverage product . They should serve well for filtering and storage . I'll be ordering a pump and polishing filter soon !!

I have been making biodiesel for about a year and have discovered that you do NOT want to risk your injectors of fuel filter on stuff you can avoid. I use plastic 55 gal drums, I like the white ones because you can see what settles to the bottom and avoid it. I would make your drum into a burn barrel and start over. Look around make some calls for the plastic drums, I have never paid more that $5.00 for one and most I got for free. Don't risk a $2k repair for a paint filled drum.

You have been mixing Secret Diesel for a year. Bio Diesel is very well defined by the EPA. Look it up, it contains none of the crap you like. No chemicals, no petroleum products, and most important no snake oil.

Thanks for the tip on car washes . Mine are blue , but I was told that they originally contained a food product . The 4 that I have should serve my immediate needs . Now I just need to start filling the remaining 3 with filtered oil !
