I'm trying to compile information on using high blends of biodiesel (up to B100) in the new generation of commonrail injection engines. So far, I've heard a couple of stories of difficulties with B100 in each of the big 3: P-stroke, Duramax, and Cummins. Can anyone add to this?

Re: 6.0 Powerstrokes and Biodiesel -- Experiences???
Everyone with a 6.0 that has posted here has said they have problems with b-100. Anything LESS than b-100 and they do fine.
The injection pressures on the new trucks are SO HIGH that they actually polymerize the oil (turn it into a plastic). Even just a little diesel in the mix prevents that.
Re: 6.0 Powerstrokes and Biodiesel -- Experiences???
There are a lot of peopel in biodiesel-land questioning this- it seems like some of it has to do with fuel quality and not 6.0's/b100 specifically, although common rail systems seem to be more sensitive to fuel quality than previous designs.
In my area, there is a distributor who tests all the fuel that he carries - a rare thing in the industry- and he consequently only sells ASTM-quality fuel (you'd be shocked at how much non-spec fuel , diesel and biodiesel, gets sold in this country). Anyway, none of his customers have had any problems with b100 in 6.0s, and he's got quite a few. IT seems to point to quality problems with the fuel that some others have trouble running.
Re: 6.0 Powerstrokes and Biodiesel -- Experiences???
I ran 125 miles on B100 from an empty tank in my 04 before it died. Took it to the shop and was told 4 injectors bad. Injectors replaced and still no power. Come to find out the injector module had failed.
I had been having many intermittent problems with rough idle, stalling upon acceleration etc. After he replaced the injectors and it still smoked like a stack and had no power I was reassured about using B100.
FMC bought it back and now have an 05, which hasn't had B100 in it and won't until I see more evidence that it is a fuel quality problem. I have ran however pretty close to B90 though with rabbits foot in my pocket and fingers and toes crossed!
I brew my own using heavy lye and methanol to assure very high conversion. I also wash it thoroughly and dry it very well.
Time will tell I guess.

Did you ever have the fuel tested to be sure you are making good fuel? Perhaps you have a bad supplier?
Re: 6.0 Powerstrokes and Biodiesel -- Experiences???
I can't comment much on BioD in the Duramax and Cummins engines...
... but...
1) I believe that the 6.0 engine is HEUI, not Common Rail. (Double-check that fact... I am only 98% sure).
2) The core problem in EARLY 6.0L engines had to do with the injectors. Ford finally solved the injector problem in 2005(ish). (Dunno if they actually did a full recall on those things or not... ). Nightmare stories surrounding the 6.0L engine seem to revolve around the 2003 and 2004 model year engines.
Core problem was that the crappy injectors had a tendancy to allow fuel to leak down past the rings right into the crank-case. What is normally a Pain in the Arse with #2 diesel fuel can quickly become a catastrophe if BioD or WVO gets into your crank case. Doesn't bode well for your bearings.
(just another .02).
