94 PSD vs 97 PSD

I recently puchased a 1997 F250 Powerstroke with the intentions of converting it to run on waste veggie oil. It has come to my attention after purchasing the truck that the 7.3 in the 97's is not the best option for conversion unless you add an addition fuel pump for the veggie oil. (which the recommended one is $400-500). But apparently the diesel engine in the 1994 F250 is much easier/better for WVO conversion.

So here is my question/bid for advice:

Do I sell the 97 and look for an older F250 with the IDI engine, or go for it with the 1997 and purchase all the extra parts needed to complete the conversion??????????

Any help is greatly appreciated.

That's weird. I do not know of any changes between the '96 and '97 models. Could it be that the big changes you've heard about are between the old body style '97 models and the "new" Super Duty introduced in early '98 (although they were called a '99 model)?

Good luck.

I have been running WVO in my 97 F350 for over a year now and about 15,000 miles. 15 second purge time. Runs awesome!!!! Plumbing was a bit tricky, but totally do-able and that's using the stock pump.

Could you tell me how you plumbed your system up by the stock fuel filter? Did you put something in the fuel bowl to take up space?

Seems like I have to purge forever to switch back to diesel.
