ADVANCE TIMING or was it Fuel Pump

I saw on another board something about changing/advancing timing when burning waste motor oil/ Something about ruining the injectors.

Is there anything to that ? I kinda doubt it, since timing is relative only to engines with distributors. And I don't recall seeing a distributor on my PSD.

I have a decent amount of WMO and am filtering it so I need some assurance that it's gonna work for me.

I know your post is a little old, but i figured i would try to help. On the older 6.9 and 7.3 timing was set by a the injection pump and thick fuel can make it retard a little.
It sound like you have a PSD, witch i believe is timed by the electronic injectors, i guess as long as you have enough fuel pressure than it wouldn't hurt anything. I don't know much about powerstrokes.

WMO can cause problems, especially if you don't filter it very fine. You can't hurt by running a little at a time if your worried about it.

I do have a 7.3 PSD that has electronically controlled injectors. I also have an EDGE controller in it that I know very little about. It was in the truck when I bought it and I really don't drive it all that much. I bought it primarily to plow my lane and pull a car trailer with. I really like the truck but since it only gets about 13 MPG, it's not one that I drive much at all. I keep hearing about the fellas on the boards who get 20-ish and I have plenty of trouble believing that. Sure wish I could get that kind of mileage....

In the meantime, I'm gathering WMO, which I'm filtering thru a PF8 and then a 5 micron house water filter. I plan to set up a receiving tank with an engine oil pump in it to drive it thru the filters. Right now I can only filter about 5 gallons a day and I dump the oil into a strainer in the garage with the filters and drum in the basement - about 6 feet of drop. More pressure should fix the flow rate.

I have several aluminum cross bed tool boxes that I bought at a scrap yard and I am going to use one of them to dump the oil into to start the filtering process. From there, into a 55 gallon drum or better yet, a 250 gallon tank with a gas station filler hose/nozzle on it. I should be all set then.

I was originally going to run WVO but decided against it since the frybrid fella is a real jerk. He and I got into it several times while I was in the process of gathering info and I was READY TO BUY FOR CASH MONEY from him. After he sh8 on his sales counter (so to speak) I decided to simply build my own system. I figger he threw away a $3000 sale. Then my sources for the WVO started getting flakey and I threw in the towel. Later on, I found out about WMO and that's the route I'm going.

I do plan to investigate timing to see if I can improve performance and maybe even fuel mileage.
